Not even slightly warm, it's a con: the bank will save a hell of a lot more than that by not sending you paper statements, they're just looking to cash in on people trying to be green.

I don't think you get a cheque book anymore either if you sign up to this.

Yeah, no cheque book would be a downer for me - I still use cheques occasionally.

I dont even read the statements anyway, they go straight in the shredder as i keep track online, so its £5 for free for me.

Thanks, have just gone green, although I've lost the choice to be able to use cheques - oh well.

Because it's not free money, it's giving away a pittance to save the bank a fortune and it leaves you without a vital part of your financial records.

It is highly recommended that you keep hard copies of bank statements for as long as possible, try getting a loan, mortgage, etc. without at least six months worth. The taxman can ask for up to six years worth! So that begs the questions: How long do the bank keep records for? How long are they available online? How much will it cost you to retrieve older statements? A hell of a lot more than a fiver I'll bet.

No problem with using a printer if you are desperate for them. I got my mortgage and remortgaged with no detail of my bank accounts whatsoever. I know it advised to keep 4/5 years worth of bank accounts and thats fine. You are right it is only £5 and i know it will save them bucket loads of money

Its a good deal if this is a bank account you dont use! I guess it can be used with the quidco if you open an account andyou get £20 and then swap to paperless - £25.

funny how they send a letter to you to say you can't change to a green account from a graduate account...

one thing worth noting this also stops you getting cheque books and paying in books - I occasionally need the odd cheque so gave this a miss . . .
