Would personally pay more for a WD Greenpower drive, but for "normal" desktop PC people, this is a HOT HOT deal!

Be warned, these are OEM disks, not retail, which means they aren't covered by a 3 or 5 year warranty you would normally get. That's why they are cheaper.

What's the warranty on the OEMs? One year?

I got massively burnt by the old Deathstar/Deskstar harddrives: never thought warranty was worth much until those drives started eating my data.

It looks like it might only be 1 year. This article is for Seagate drives but is probably the same case for Samsung: http://www.channelregister.co.uk/200...e_hard_drives/

The Scan website states the warranty on this product as : "Duration: 36 months" & state on the product description page,

"Remember ALL our Hard Drive brands we sell are official 3 or 5 year Maximum Warranty Product. Peace of Mind!
Many of our competitors sell Grey/imported or system integrator product with only 1 year warranty! to achieve a cheap price."

As Ebuyer just state "OEM" i dont know what warranty they offer so it seems if Scan have them at the same price or cheaper they are a safe bet to go with... I know i will be when i get paid so long as toh doesnt spend my cash first lol!

I've had many drives that arrive OEM, but have more than a year of warranty. The last drive I purchased was an OEM Samsung 500GB with 3 years (back in July 07). Have they started reducing warranties now?!

oem usually means that it comes without any retail packaging, manuals, screws, cables, etc
the warranty should still be the same

i still think they are tumbling in price due to the nightmare people have when trying to format them. see my post on another expired thread.

I had 2, sent them both back. The replacement seagate formatted first time.

known issue with them and i posted on the scan forums, plus I've noticed there are hardly any feedbacks on both ebuyer and scan websites! suspicous for such a cheap drive!?

Are tyou sure? I bought a Maxtor OEM about 18months ago. 3 months ago it broke. I found out that Seagate (took over Maxtor) offer a 3-year warranty on it. Maybe Samsung are less generous though. I don't see why including wasted cardboard packaging increases the warranty period. So gay.
