eBay Seller Went Bust - Can My Friend Get His Money Back?

POSTED BY: Gazbert 4 months, 3 weeks ago

Simple enough really. A colleague at work bought a running machine from an eBay seller, who has gone bust before delivering. It cost something daft like £500. But it is top of the range.

Anyway, he paid with Paypal using his Credit Card.

Can he get his cash back through PayPal or his credit card company?

Cheers, Gary

Paypal , tell him to click the transaction and file a dispute - he may get some money back but it depends if the sale had ebay buyer protection for paypal

go through the creit card company, if he really is in liquidation then his paypal account should be frozen so he is unlikely to get it back that way.

I can't believe people still buy things from Ebay. Apart from the odd item, most can be bought cheaper elsewhere if you really look, plus you don't get the hassle of things not working/not arriving if you buy from a big reputable company!

if he doesnt get money back via paypal - which is very doubtful - he is going to get it back through credit card - he should contact credit card company now so they wont add interest - it should be put on hold until matter is sorted out

Try Paypal first, but your credit card company will probably be the best bet as all purchases over £100 should be covered for this eventuality. Good luck to your mate!

ebay is like buying anywhere else - bad things sometimes happen. And I've had much more hassle dealing with large companies when things go wrong than with ebay/paypal. Maybe you should start believing again

They're wrong, read them the consumer credit act. They're joint liable as long as it's over £100, even if only 1p of it was spent on your card.
