Mugabe does whatever he wants ...

POSTED BY: Scribbles 4 months, 3 weeks ago

... and no-one stops him :(

Opinions? I think it's a crying shame that aholes like Robert Mugabe can get away with brutality and pillage of his country and the UN and African neighbours do nothing. In fact, i'd go as far as to say that Mbeki is in league with Mugabe's illegal regime. I personally see no use for the UN. It's a shambolic waste of time, all words and no action.

China, France, UK, USA, Russia are the UN's 5 permanent members on the security council. says a lot really about clash of interests. despite the UN's best efforts to resolve things peacefully, and their tireless work in righting the wrongs of these evil people do not get a lot of highlight.

i have had friends who worked in the UN and NGOs, one for eg helped to write this crazy document to help identify which artefacts meet the criteria eg. belonging to iraq or which belong to other countries that are historically linked with iraq, and at what point the plundered goods during invasion that are now sold in the black market will be deemed stolen goods.

u just have to admire their selfless desire and motivation of the little people who still believe in the right way to do things, even if they dont make the headlines. me? i am just a cynical realist.

sometimes i do wonder why 'assasinations' only happen to certain people, usually the good-doers.

The UN were told by the African Union that it wanted to handle the problem themselves, all I've seen from them is an amazing ability to ignore what's going on!

If Mbeki was in league with Mugabe do you not think he would have allowed banned south African ports from accepting delivery of weapons shipment meant for Zimbabwe? After Iraq the UN doesn't want to help Britain or America do anything and who could blame them after both countries decided it would be best to go against the UN security council and invade Iraq. Zimbabwe is a bad situation but i do think the Sudan situation is far worse and better dealt with by the UN, so in closing the UN is not a waste of time just because they aren't doing what you want.

film about the UN ... most recent one that comes to mind is The Interpreter with nicole kidman, sean penn ... directed by sydney pollack. not a masterpiece because i kept looking at her new improved chin, her clothes wondering who picked the outfits out etc. somehow even experienced actors as they both are, they did not have on-screen chemistry.

sometimes films reflect what people think of ...

So will they do something in the Sudan then? Not on your nelly. Nor will they so something in Zimbabwe, Somalia, Burma, in fact any country that has no assets worth 'liberating'. SA couldn't be seen to be helping Mugabe. Do we assume that, had the world's attention not been on that shipment, he would have done the same thing? I very much doubt it. It's the difference between 'on the record' politics and 'off the record' politics.
As for Iraq, do you think the UN would ever have given a mandate? Iran is building bombs to obliterate Israel at this very moment and the UN just stands by and watches LMAO

That is exactly right. That is also the very reason that the UN will never do nothing about nothing. China will always veto the US, as will Russia. The US and UK will always veto China and Russia. France is just a silent partner in the matter.

France .. cowards when it comes to making a stand. i know they had the revolution and all, but their political stance have always been internalised. they dont support the iraq invasion but invited mugabe for tea.
