China, France, UK, USA, Russia are the UN's 5 permanent members on the security council. says a lot really about clash of interests. despite the UN's best efforts to resolve things peacefully, and their tireless work in righting the wrongs of these evil people do not get a lot of highlight.

i have had friends who worked in the UN and NGOs, one for eg helped to write this crazy document to help identify which artefacts meet the criteria eg. belonging to iraq or which belong to other countries that are historically linked with iraq, and at what point the plundered goods during invasion that are now sold in the black market will be deemed stolen goods.

u just have to admire their selfless desire and motivation of the little people who still believe in the right way to do things, even if they dont make the headlines. me? i am just a cynical realist.

After Iraq the UN doesn't want to help Britain or America do anything and who could blame them after both countries decided it would be best to go against the UN security council and invade Iraq. Zimbabwe is a bad situation but i do think the Sudan situation is far worse and better dealt with by the UN, so in closing the UN is not a waste of time just because they aren't doing what you want.

That is exactly right. That is also the very reason that the UN will never do nothing about nothing. China will always veto the US, as will Russia. The US and UK will always veto China and Russia. France is just a silent partner in the matter.
