It has been mentioned on here before that if you contact the manufacturer direct they often replace broken GHDs even outside of warranty, will see if I can find the thread.

What a waste, ghd should be reported to the waste people.

If the time limit has expired on the guarantee then you have no claim under the guarantee.

However, if you can show that the goods were not of satisfactory quality at the time of sale i.e. they were not as durable as it is reasonable to expect, then you may have a claim against the trader or finance company (if applicable) for compensation under the Sale of Goods Act.

Yup... freecycle have banned asking for broken GHD's (... my husbands is good at electrics & can fix them up for friends... etc)
As they will always replace them for free!

I have a pair of Kodo straighteners, hands down the best pair I have ever owned. My cousin bought hers from the hairdressers and paid about £100. I used them once and had to get a pair myself, nearly 3 years on and they are still working perfectly. I have recommended them to loads of friends who agree. I got a pair for a friend last week from ebay for £30 brand new!!!!! I know they now do wet 2 straight ones but never tried those, have a look on ebay they had loads when I last looked.
Hope this helps.

Write to GHD and explain they are faulty, they'll then send you pre paid packaging so you can return them and in all cases i have heard of they will test them and then repair, but usually send you a brand new pair, they did for me, took about 3 weeks.

Our hairdresser recommended Kodo straighteners and says they are well better than GHDs but I don't think they are easy to get hold of, we got ours from a trade sale.

We had a rubbish experience. They were nearly two years old(mark 2 or w/e), and they said they weren't faulty (took 20 seconds to heat up, when it should be like 3 seconds). They told us it was a £10 admin charge aswell. They also said they didn't have spare parts for it, to replace ourselves. After a month and they still weren't back, we rang them and they said they'd lost them and we'd get a replacement, And they had the nerve to send us the old model, ok they were new, but after charging us £10 and taking like 5 weeks, they could have given us the newest model. And we had to pay postage, as they wouldn't let us drop them off(we live 10 miles from the factory).

Yep, I have had to pay to get them sent off. I have decided to give that a try and in the meantime I have brought her a half price set from Boots (Nicky Clarke ones).

Thanks everyone for contributing. You will now all get some rep.
