Does he have many feedback? Has he said why he doesn't want to use PayPal? How much are you paying? Has he given you his details ? (Phone no#)

Take note of everything because if anything goes wrong at least you know what bank he is with and his full name

Safe as houses. Can't do anything with just your number and name. Would be tricky to get away with anything even if he had that and your full address.

No problem giving him this info-nothing he could do with it.. As for him on the otherhand, hes leaving himself wide open (although im sure youre 100% trustworthy!) to allsorts!

I have his full name/address/phone number/and he has no bad feedback with a good number of positives. He said that because it's a large amount and he's not verified his PayPal account.

I have setup a separate savings account just to accept bt. It might be an option if your worried about people getting your cash out somehow. Just open the account with your current account provider and transfer it across online when you receive any funds. Im happier giving out the other details than the account I actually keep money in.

Although, sort code & account number have been on cheques for years with your name and a copy of your signature

And what they forgot to say is that he got it all back under the Direct Debit guarantee. Seriously if this is the worst that could happen, I have no hesitation using BT. (also I would not get caught by that because, I check my internet banking regularly, and a new direct debit has to be on the account for 14 days before any money is taken)
I'm more scared by getting a chargeback from a buyer via Paypal.

It's safe for the seller but I never use it as a buyer as there is virtually no way to get your money back and no gaurentee offered by eBay. As said above, the worst they can do to you with just name and account details is set up a direct debit or create fraudulent cheques (way unusual that). They would need personal details as well to begin to do real damage to your account.
If you have a Halifax or Bank of Scotland account, and they do too an internal transfer could be arranged on just the roll number of your account. You wouldn't need to give up the sort code and account number then but they would need your name to confirm the recipient.

This is the best advice. If you pay using BT then the seller can just keep whatever you bought and there will be nothing you can do about it. Ebay, paypal and the banks will just say "tough!".
