Pence is the plural of penny.

To be REALLY pedantic.

As I see it - Penny is what the old currency used to be called when there were 240 pennies (or pence) to the pound.

Pence as used these days, is an abbreviation of 'NEW PENCE' so one new pence or one pence (For short) is acceptable.

So there!!

Now if you were to complain about being 'TEXTED'.....??

They were only called 'new pence' initially - if you look at the coins from about the 1980s the 'new' was dropped.
