Building a New Cheap Budget PC for under £300

POSTED BY: RockstarRob 1 month, 2 weeks ago

Hi,

I have decided to challenge myself and build a new self built pc that can play games for under £300.

I have spec'd a system with the following:

http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/4/5/16/f_pcm_d6fd4e2.jpg&srv=img30

Any opinions?, Will this set up work ok as its the cheapest spec I could come out with. Any tips very welcome. Thanks

I have been pricing up a decent system myself recently, if you don't need a monitor you should be able to construct a nice core duo Intel or AMD triple core system if you build it yourself, personally i am leaning towards the AMD route because Intel are soon to be changing the mainstream socket for its CPUs so future upgrading would be a new motherboard as well as cpu.

Glad to see you have remembered the thermal grease, Ive lost track of the n umber of times ive come to do a build, rebuild or upgradeand realised ive not got any! I now buy half a dozen tubes at a time, just in case and also keep them in the safe as they are so easy to mislay!

there was a thread ages ago about buiolding a top spec PC for about £350 (before Black gerbil turns up: tree fiddy). Was at least a couple of months ago though...

I would say get Hard drive enough for now but maybe save up for a 1T drive, so if you can cannabilise an old PC for HDD then you could make it something special

Is the DVD drive re-writable?

Is the Motherboard ok? it is stated as a decent deal according to the reviews and runs quite fast. This is a bundle deal with the processor already attached I thought of getting this as it would save effort. The Board I think is a micro ATX , is the size the only difference between this and a standard?.

He was saying you could save the cost of the operating system by using an illegal version, rather than being helpful.

mATX boards have fewer PCI/PCI-E sockets.
