Electrical power is supplied and distributed around your house at 50Hz. However, the wires are actually capable of carrying a range of other frequencies which can be 'tuned-in' using appropriate equipment. Powerline Homeplug technology takes advantage of this unused bandwidth of the electrical wiring in the home.
The signal can travel between floors of a house even when they are on a different ring main, as long as they are on the same consumer/fuse-box your side of the meter.
Works with just about anything with an Ethernet port and is driverless unless you need the encryption utility (supplied on CD-Rom with each pack).
PC, Mac, Linux, PS3, Xbox including Xbox 360 and media adapters/players. all just plug in and are away.
If you do manage to find an Ethernet device it will not work with you are welcome to send them back for a full refund. No quibbles.
Compatibility: Homeplug 1.0 & homeplug 1.0 Turbo compliant, these inter-operate with other homeplug models that are to this standard, i.e. Actiontec, Arkados, Aztech, Belkin, Cameo, C-net, Cisco, Devolo, Dynamode, Echostar, Econnect, Fujitsu, Gigafast, Intellion, Lea, Netgear, Vesenet & ZyXEL at both 14mbps & 85mbps, got another make or model and not sure, please just ask: Homeplug-info@faculty-x.net
However: Homeplug 1.0 & 1.0 turbo do not work with Homeplug AV at 200mbps, you can have both on the same circuit and they will communicate over each other, i.e have two networks at different speeds but will not talk to each other.
Just plug the adapter into the power socket on the wall, and connect any Ethernet-equipped device to the adapter, put another adapter in the location you are trying to reach and bingo, it then simply converts the network signal to a signal that can be sent down your electrical wiring and then at the other end converts it back again.
Once your computers are connected to the network, they can share resources like printers and storage space, and all kinds of files -- music, digital pictures, and documents. With up to 85Mbps data rates, you can run streaming video and VoIP applications..
PLEASE NOTE: You need at least two to make a network (one each end of the link)
But you can add more than two to the network, Ten is a practical limit but upto 254 in theory.
