Pentax K100D Super DSLR Camera With 18 - 55 Lens @ Argos (Home Delivery or Reserve)

£249.99

205°

FOUND BY: Matt J 1 year, 5 months ago

An excellent camera for the price. I know Tesco once had a very good deal on this for quite a bit cheaper and there was the Asda one-off deal posted a while back, but 249.99 is still a very good for this.

Only entry level dSLR to feature a top LCD solely for shooting information which is a nice bonus for a lot of people.

Beware: 6mp resolution (not a problem if printing <=A3), not very friendly interface, model going out of production.

Isn't the D40 a much better camera? and cheaper with this deal at £227 http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/15828...x-18-55-mm-le/

Several points:

• All of these 6mp SLRs give comparable quality.
• The Pixmania deal is with a load of faffy rebates. This is 'straight up'. Pixmania is not a UK company so the rebates may not even work - making it more expensive.
• The Pentax is a Pentax, not a Nikon. Someone might want a pentax specifically as they have lenses etc.
• This camera has a number of things that the Nikon does not:
- Dust Reduction
- In-body anti-shake
- More AF points.
• Pentax viewfinders tend to be better in comparisons like this.

It's also possible that someone might want a camera you can run on AAs. In Short, a nice camera at a fab price. Tempting even me, and I chose a nikon over the *ist DL back in the day!

I agree on the points of leighonigar, the AA batteries and in-body shake reduction definitely stand out! Nice price! BTW the Super also has dust removal system!

And the build is generally better than that of say, Canon's (now replaced) 400D.

Perhaps, but they do frequently ship non-uk product.

Yep that's pretty much every reason why I posted this deal and why I wouldn't advise choosing the D40 over the K100D.

Pixmania is technically part of the DSG group as noted but DSG only actually own majority shares in the company, it doesn't make it UK based (it is in fact French) or anywhere as reliable as the DSG group. Also, with a retailer like Argos they are very good with their returns policy, over the years I have never had a problem.

Please could someone suggest a couple of recommended lenses for the Pentax K100D that would be essential purchases as the 1st and 2nd lenses?

Could someone also perhaps please explain the mounting systems to look for for the digital K100D (Im a little familar with the Canon range but know nothing of the Pentax).

Ta in advance

The lens mount (unsurprisingly) is pentax! - one company's selection is at http://www.warehouseexpress.com/cate...spx?cat03=3080 but as said above, you can also use historic pentax lenses, e.g. through ebay. As the anti-shake is built into the camera, you will get the advantage of anti-shake with all lens fitted. With Nikon (and Canon) you have to buy lenses with anti-shake, which tend to cost extra. Hope this is useful

stpandp - thanks, but I was looking for a bit more detail from people in the know (rather than a link to one of the many online stores selling pentax lenses)

For example; which current (K mount?) and older mounts might fit the K100D and whether it fits natively or via an adapter, and which are the no brainer lenses to buy (i.e.one recommended Cannon lense people rave about as a must buy is the cheap EOS 50mm F1.8).
Ta.

Thanks for this. I have a bag full of old Pentax K mount lenses which I had with my old P30 SLR. I've reserved mine and can't wait to try this one out!
