It's an OK card... I had to upgrade mine as I needed more, but it'll just about play Crysis on medium at 1680x1050 if that helps as a rough guide.

Value for money card if you have to have an Nvidia gpu. I have one and it plays crysis demo well enough and most other modern games at high detail.

No.

It will be better, but you're going from a mid-low card from 3 generations ago to a mid-low card from last generation.
You will notice some improvements, but they wouldn't be big enough for me to recommend.

But it does also depend on what the rest of your system is like.

I have a Radeon 9800 Pro. I only play a bit of CS now and again, and I need to upgrade anyway because I have a new motherboard with PCI-E, my old one is AGP. Would this be a good replacement?

Tom's Hardware reviews are a good source of info for your question. See the graphics card hierarchy at this page for example: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/Gaming...w-30439-8.html
(It's a few months old now though)
They always say that unless you are upgrading to go three levels or higher in the hierarchy it's probably not worth your trouble... and I think that's a fair guide to use.

Having said that, for ocassional use (i.e. not playing games at max settings and avoiding highly demanding games like Crysis) an 8600GTS would be fine at the minute. Note that you can also get a 7900GS for £40+delivery at ebuyer too which has equivalent (or very near) performance to an 8600GTS.

This is a good price - Its a 8600GTS version which should be faster than the GT version.
It has the faster GDDR 3 ram, quite a few other 8600GT have the slower GDDR2 Ram.
XFX are a well known brand for Graphics Cards and its the retail version.
If you gaming on a 19" Monitor this should be fine for most titles (Especially if you turn off AA)

The 7900GS at Ebuyer will be faster on some titles than the 8600GTS but the GTS offers DX10 support, better HD Decoding on chip and HDCP compatible DVI output.

The only negative is Aria's expensive delivery.
