PS3 / LAPTOP UPGRADE : 320Gb Western Digital 2.5" SATA Hard Drive - £65.99 Delivered.

Going by other PS3 forum discussions supposedly this is the best hard drive to have if your going to upgrade your PS3.

I can confirm this drive works great in a PS3 as my mate has one in his.

For comparison it's £99.99 delivered @ Play.com !

I recently upgraded my PS3 with the same drive. Used a USB based one as a go between to backup my old 40Gb, then replaced the 40Gb with the 320Gb, and restored the contents from the USB to the 320Gb and all my downloads etc came back as expected!

Just so people know, the drive in the deal isn't PS3 specific. It will work in your SATA based notebook etc as well

Yep ! I was getting carried away with upgrading my 40Gb PS3 .....

My other option was getting this 250Gb Western Digital Passort External drive for £55.50 and swapping the drives so i'd end up with a 40gb external too :

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/19707...rt-v2-250gb-2/

But nobody could confirm exactly what spec the drive was inside the External enclosure to go in the PS3 !

yes its the right size and type, but you need the bits that hold the HD in place in that dell laptop, which dell only supply if you have a second HD - ie. if your laptop only has one HD at the moment you won't have the fittings so will need to get them from dell. if you look in the manual and open the HD compartment for both drives you will see what i mean

Good point.

I currently use XBMC on an old xbox, which i would love to replace (ugly, noisy box), I've been thinking of upgrading my drive in my PS3 with a view to installing linux. Installed yellow dog on my 40Gig drive to give me a taster. Installed ok, but I think it will be a good few years before it'll be in a position to be used as a media center.
