Personally i'd wait for the Freecom drive to drop in price

BUT

I think the main reason these MyBooks get bad rep is because they are by some large margin the most popular external drives on the market, therefore they sell a lot, and proportionally more of them fail. And more post a review to complain rather than praise.

I have one of these but the smaller capacity drive of 500GB i'm not impressed by the build quality at all its plastic and creeks when even being picked up, paying this kind of price you would expect a decent housing for the drive.
