Half price Dorset Cereals at Waitrose

156°

FOUND BY: mn2jtp 1 year, 4 months ago

STARTS: 28/06/2008

Just visited my local Waitrose branch (Bath) - they have all Dorset Cereals at half price - normally pretty pricey at around £3.20 per pack, so selling for ~£1.60 with this deal. Nice muesli-style cereal, packed with various seeds, nuts and dried fruit (Chilean flame raisins seem particularly ubiquitous) Definitely worth stocking up if you're a fan of these.

I love Dorset cereals. Soooo much nicer than other brands. Yes, normally very pricey. Might pop into Waitrose and get some. Thanks!

Dry Dusty rabbit food... I found them to be very disappointing when Sainsbury's had them on an offer a few months back. Try the Deluxe luxury style muesli range at Lidl -£1.49 for 750g they are better than the Jordans range, which is normally about 2.79 and upwards and compare well to the even dearer Dorset range.

Sceptical here too - check the SUGAR content suits you - I was disappointed when I tried a couple of them when on cut price at Tesco a few months back - way too sweetened for my taste.

I'm not too sure what you class as sweetened. Both the varieties I currently have (simply delicious muesli and really nutty muesli) clearly state that there is no added sugar, but that they do contain naturally occurring sugars. I personally wouldn't say they are noticeably sweet at all, though I would agree that they are not the nicest to eat and I find the simply delicious muesli particularly hard going sometimes.

I'm never 100% sure if Waitrose and Ocado have exactly the same offers, but looking at the Ocado website, I see that not all of the Dorset cereals are BOGOF, but that the ones that are represent very good value. For example, Dorset Cereals Berries & Cherries Muesli 800g is £2.11, buy 2 save £2.12. Obviously this works out at £1.05 per pack, which is undeniably good value.

Really nutty muesli is great! In fact, might have some now! Didn't care much for the high fibre one though.

From the Dorset website:

Where does the sugar come from in your cereals?

Everyone needs a little bit of sugar in their diet. Nearly all the sugar found in our recipes comes from the naturally occurring sugars in the fruit and provides essential fuel for the brain and energy for daily activities. We pride ourselves on the high fruit, nuts and seeds content of our recipes and it’s due to this that we have naturally higher levels of sugar (fruit sugar). However, a very small amount of our recipes actually contain sugar-infused fruit. Our Berries & Cherries Muesli, for example, contains 2.1% "added" sugar, while the remainder is naturally occurring sugars from the fruit. This equates to less than 1g of added sugar per 100g of recipe – and without it the fruit can be quite sharp! Recipes that contain sugar-infused fruit are:

* Fruit, Nuts & Seeds Muesli
* Berries & Cherries Muesli
* Super Cranberry, Cherry & Almond Muesli
* Tasty, Toasted Spelt, Barley & Oat Flakes
* Cranberry, Cherries & Raspberry Naturally Light Flakes
(also found in the flakes)
* Figs & Grapes Naturally Light Flakes
(also found in the flakes)
* Pomegranates & Cherries Naturally Light Flakes
(also found in the flakes)

That's not a bad sugar story really. Does anybody eat jam? Jam is 60% or more sugar, that's high sugar.

In another post somebody mentioned lidl muesli. I think that must have been a joke, the lidl is like sawdust.

I suspected the anti Lidl snobs would come out of the woodwork if I mentioned it! Few things are more predictable (other than the Apple computer/iphone suckers!)
There are however a LOT of site users who do know about Lidl products, and while not all are perfect, some are exceptionally good, most are far better than some "mainstream" supermarket brands.

I do however favour the free market approach: You keep paying for the dear floor-sweepings at Waitrose, I will buy the cheap better stuff.

Others are mentioning sugar - neither the Dorset, Lidl or Jordans products of this type I have had contain extra sugar, the sweetness is all in the form of dried fuit in this sort of product. I think the last time you tried muesli must have been when Alpen first came out, and that is a SEA of sugar, (as well as dried milk powder) cheap supermarket copies are too, they are not even vaguely the same sort of product as the Deluxe ranges we are talking about. My only complaint about a few brands is the proportion of Dates - too many in some, but that's because it is about the only dried fruit I am not keen of.

Lidl cheaper range may well be sawdust, I have never had it; but not their better quality range.
If you want sawdust, for a comparison, try the Aldi version - £1 for 500g, and it is so dusty and full of very little other than oats. Pity, Aldi products are not all what they were

* Super Cranberry, Cherry & Almond Muesli is awesome, I use it on top of my wheat biscuits and mini wheats, as it's a bit pricey as an everyday cereal.

Yeah, I suppose I must be getting too much fibre already ;)

Haven't tried the big raisins one, will try that one next time. Surprised so many people don't like this brand of cereal. I really REALLY like it.

I like the Dorset range of cereals. However, I don't agree with:

normally pretty pricey at around £3.20 per pack

That may be the normal price charged for them in Waitrose, but in Tescos you can buy the 800g box of cherries and berries for £2.11, that is without any special offers.
