Cheaper to use and more environmentally friendly than even rechargeable batteries, and can be used with an invertor in your car if camping etc.

Personally I think I'd prefer the current offering from www.Maplin.co.uk (with quidco opportunity)- assuming you're near to one of their stores as their free postage offer over last weekend (found here) has expired.

I thought I'd found this offer here too, but couldn't spot it when I looked.
The Maplin has wider range of voltages (I specifically wanted it for the 12V 1.4A) and one extra tip and is published as a 'switched mode' supply which should be more electrically efficient than some designs.

That Maplins deal is a good one too.. With the price of fuel it all depends on which store is closest to you I guess!!

I noticed that neither of those power supplies (Argos & Maplin) have a surge protector built into the lead. You can recognise the surge protector as a small box or tube fixed onto the lead between the power supply and the appliance socket. I don't know if the E-buyer Navigo Sat Nav needs that protection but digital cameras usually do. I have got the Argos adapter which I definately would not use on my expensive digital camera. However, I would probably take the risk on lower priced electronic gadgets.

The Navigo specs are not very clear.

On page 11 of the User Interface Manual it says 'DC IN jACK-Supply power and charging'

In the specs at the back it says the battery is 1050mAH Lion Composite.

I cannot find any mention of DC voltage.

Will this still work with it?

I would rather have this than use the in car adapter!!

The Car adaptor's output as I understand it is 5V at 1.5A so either the Argos or Maplins ones should work fine as the Navigo will only draw the current it needs.

If you're really worried about surges then I would only use a regulated AC adapter but then they are a lot more costly.

I would use a regulated one for a laptop or expensive camera but there again most of us charge our expensive mobile phones on cheap and cheerful chargers!!

Postie brought my Maplin PSU this morning so their logistics work very well even if their website account/order is really rather poorly designed and unfriendly, and the status confusing, and despatch email sent 4 hours after it had been picked/marked as sent etc etc - ie process not very friendly, results quite satisfactory enough though, especially for free P&P!

The PSU has a nice positive click when rotating the voltage selector. Checking the 4.5V with my Lidl voltmeter showed 4.65V ie within 3% which I think is pretty good (at zero load anyway).

No need to worry, this is a regulated adaptor and is designed for use with precision electronics, hence it's original price. An unregulated one can be bought anywhere for around £3.

I use the mains charger from my Jabra bluetooth headset BT250v & it works a treat. These can be picked up for peanuts second hand.

I too would recommend the Maplin one here from personal use.

It is 'Regulated' so is a bargain for £8.99, the Navigo car charger pumped out 5.28v - 1.5a max, the Maplin one sends out 5.02v - 2.5a max when set to 5v, it's very small so a bargain in my mind

I'm sure the Argos one is just as reliable, i not sure whether it's regulated or not though
