(PRE-ORDER ) Acer Aspire One 1.6GHz / 512MB / 8GB SSD / 8.9" / Linux

£219.99

29°

FOUND BY: netdevil69 1 year, 4 months ago

This is the entry model, also this is the cheapest price i can find it at, the next best price is £10 more at Play.com (but you can use the £5 off voucher on top of that from the vouchers section here at HDUK, so only £5 more expensive really.

Amazon and Play have all models ready for preorder at what seem to be the best prices, although Play claims it will get them in stock sooner then amazon, but they've said that about things before and often knock the date back.

Specifications are as listed:
* Processor: Intel Atom N270 1.6Ghz Processor (533 MHz FSB, 512 KB L2 cache)
* Memory: 512MB
* HD Capacity: 8GB SSD
* Display: 8.9" WSVGA (1024 x 600)
* Graphics Card: Integrated
* Operating System: Linpus Linux Lite
* Optical Drive: None
* Networking: 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, 10/100 Fast Ethernet,
* Interfaces:
* 5-in-1 card reader (SD, MMC, MS, MS PRO, xD)
* SD card reader
* 3 USB 2.0 ports
* External display (VGA) port
* Headphone/speaker/line-out jack
* Microphone-in jack
* Ethernet (RJ-45) port
* DC-in jack for AC adapter

And as it seems obligatory to post this too, First Post ;-) Suggestions welcome, and i hope someone finds this useful.

Nice price, bare in mind though, these aspire one's only last about 2 1/2hours battery with screen on medium brightness . An extra battery is about £68

Compared to a EEE 901 lasting 8hours.

I think more like a max of 6 hrs with wifi turned off, half brightness and doing basic tasks

At what voltages?

Also - can they be charged via the USB port?

None of these netbooks can be charged via USB, or anything else other then their AC adapters.

Maybe some sort of electrical mod will alow this, but they require so much voltage/ampage, i dont think it would be possible.

Is this because you want to charge it via your car's cig-to-usb adaptor?

If so, I don't think any of these recent netbooks, let alone standard notebooks, allow the device itself to be charged via USB. It's 99.9% of the case that people want to charge something else via the netbook's USB.

Thanks guys - I have an invertor and multiblock in the back of the car for charging things.

What I had been thinking about was is - (say for example) it took 18v from the power adaptor - a battery box with 15 x AA 2700mAh rechargeables could be used to power it - as it would be used while travelling - and I could top them up once I arrive to use them in the radio/PMRs/MP3 player/torch/mobile battery extender I normally take and use once there.

Just noticed this has shown up on PC worlds web site, and with their price match you'd get it for the even cheaper price of 218.99. Im not canceling my Pre-order at amazon, but might be worth it for people who have not already ordered.

EDIT:

Not sure if devilery has to go on top of this, or if PC world take that into the price match.

Have PCWorld/Dixons/Currys only recently started doing price matching? I only ask since over the past week or so any deal that comes up that's software or hardware based normally gets treated with the "you can get it cheaper at p/d/c if price matched!!!!111oneeleven"

Not that I'm knocking it of course, just wondering

No, they have been doing it a while AFAIK. They normally dont stock the things i want price matching though, but in this case it seems they do, so when i saw it on their site i though it would be worth mentioning. 110% of the difference tho, so they price match, then give you 10% of the difference from the matched price. Which only works out as a £1 saving in this case.

edit:

not sure if PC world will match the free delivery though.

I pre-ordered this at play.com a few weeks ago for £199.99 - £5 off voucher, so £194.99.

I assume play.com will charge me the price quoted at the time of ordering, and not the updated price?
