Voting Warm?

POSTED BY: bazzaric 2 months, 2 weeks ago

Although we can still vote warm (well, I presume we can using the grey button!), is it still acceptable? Since the changeover, there has been no distinctive warm button, so are we meant to vote hot or cold?

My feedback threads never make sense!!

I have always felt that the grey button ought to be yellow or orange to highlight the fact that the warm still functions. Must admit that I don't use it much though.

I never normally vote warm, but there was a particular deal today that I felt was neither hot, nor cold. I could either just leave it, and say nothing (leave it to those who actually find it hot or cold to decide) or vote warm. I felt it was worthy of a warm at least!

Took me a long time to realise that there was a warm button. I too think it should be highlighted with a colour.

I think it does need to be clearer that it's an option, I do think it has its place - there are deals that are slightly better than existing prices but nothing special, in these cases I vote warm rather than a cold deal which is worse than existing prices.

I like the warm vote and the way it works, I've used it quite a few times (exactly for the reasons johnmcl states). I agree the button should have a little more red in it.

Basically if you warm vote something that is cold the temperature goes up, and if you warm vote something that is very hot the temperature goes down. Not sure exactly where the 'threshold' is but I'd guess somewhere around 60 degrees?

So if you vote warm on a front-page deal its likely its heat will go down, albeit by a small amount, whereas if you vote warm on a brand-new deal its heat will go up.

Oh, makes sense.

But I might vote warm to only give 2-3 degrees rather than 9, only to find that it goes down!!

Don't think warm is the right word, effectively you're moving it closer to 0 so you think it's freezing.

No, you're moving it closer to the warm threshold (not certain what this is but its not freezing)

Remember it makes deals colder than the threshold hotter, and those hotter than the threshold colder. Also unlike a cold vote, there is no expectation to 'justify' your a warm vote - it simply means the think it is neither 'hot' or 'cold'...

I probably use it most on deals that I think are okay but don't really justify the 'heat' they have, or on new deals which again look okay but not really hot.

Ah, so you're moving it closer to 60 (for example), that would make sense.
