WANTED: superfast brand new desktop pc base unit, not needed for gaming!!

Hi all, i am after buying a really fast desktop base unit. the ideal specs i think i want are a quad-core, 3gb ram, 400gb+ hard drive and the only games i MAY play on it are some of the old ones like escape from monkey island! im not looking to build or get one built from a local shop. an hdmi out would be an added bonus,as would wifi, although i could always put a wifi card in the usb slot. i would also like it to have a pretty fast dvd writer and some sort of burning software so i can back up any dvds/cds that i have. it would only need to have a couple of usbs as i tend to do one or two things at any one time. i know some may say i dont need a quad but i would like it fast and im open to suggestions. i would also like vista premium so that i can stream stuff to my xbox 360 . i also dont need a mouse or keyboard as i already have wireless ones. iv seen some excellent spec machines on ebay and they all have excellent feedback,(type: QUAD CORE 9.6Ghz Q6600 4GB/500GB & 8600GT 1GB HDMI +GAL), but they dont come with vista so i would need to factor in the cost of that if i was to go for the ebay ones. rep will be added for all who help or give their opinions of the ebay ones, and thanks to everyone in advance for any help, i really will appreciate it.

I know the Dell XPS rage are aimed at 'gamers' but they are also fantastic multimedia PC's. Look into those, the specs your after they cater for easily and at a very reasonable price.

One question: What do you nedd a 'superfast' desktop PC for?
For the last 5 years, at least, all PCs can run any clasic software with no lag.
Only if you are an hardcore galmer or do video editing can you have a need of a cutting-edge PC. Remember that your cell phone has more computing abilities than the PC you used to play monkey island the first time!

How much you plan to spend and what you want to use it for is all that matters. I don't understan your need for a such a superfast PC, apart from showing off (no offense intended, I have been there myself)

Hi not much more than £300, but as i said if i got the ebay one i would have to factor getting vista in addition to the machine

You would be best advised to get a fast dual core as current quad cores slower speeds than their equivalent priced dual core partners. A quad core processor is needed (and indeed a dual core really) only for large amounts of processing...NOT large amounts of WORD PROCESSING. I advise you to get a good spec dual core as it is the frequency that will be more important to your situation not the number of cores.

totally agree, but i want it fast so im not waiting for stuff to load all the time, im so impatient!! if everyone here thinks that a quad is not req then i will def take their word for it, as im not the sharpest when it comes to computers, so no, i wont require it for video editing or high end gaming...

The OP stated he didnt want to build :(

I agree with the C2D though (Core 2 DUo)...possibly look at the 8600GT instead of 6800GT though as its a more recent card and performs as good, if not better.

The EBay one you have suggested does seem to be a good price, i dont think i could find a pre-built system any cheaper than the projected price of that (from the sellers previous sales ) Possibly could build one cheaper but thats not a cert either. I would be careful of buying off ebay however as there are no real guarantees, nobody you can go and complain too.

I'll let others say what they think of the ebay one
