Deal as below, copied and pasted from travel zoo:-

Rail tickets between London and Birmingham are on offer for just £5 per person with Chiltern Railways, a fantastic saving considering fares can cost up to £50 for a single ticket on this route.

We found good availability for midweek travel between July and September, but you may need to be flexible with your travel times to find the lowest fares. Availability is very limited on Saturdays, and tickets arent available to book on Sundays.

How to book: To book tickets with Chiltern Railways, use the orange buy now button on the homepage to enter your travel dates and times.

It's worth stating the offer also applies to some intermediate stations: -

Banbury (travel to London or Birmingham)
Bicester (travel to London or Birmingham)
Great Missenden (travel to London only)
Stratford upon Avon (travel to London only)

This is exceptionally useful, as even off-peak tickets from Banbury to London cost £23.50 (and single tickets are normally £15.90).

I'm a regular Chiltern traveller from Great Missenden, and these deals have not been publicised locally.
Great stuff - only valid on certain off-peak services though.
Chiltern now owned by a big and successful German transport company; expect many more of these value initiatives to follow.

This is an excellent deal. Does anyone know how flaxible these tickets are? Because with virgin trains, although you have to specify going and return date and times for offpeak travel, you can actually use the return ticket to come back anytime that month (offpeak). Does anyone know if these tickets are valid ONLY on the train times you pick?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, wording of deal says "-£5 each way" - ie. they pay you £5 each way!?!?
That's about the only way you'll convince me to go to Birmingham!

Great deal, though. ;)

You can only use them on the services specified.
So from London to GM, it's twice in the morning and once in the evening (except Fridays, when it's 2357 as well - the vomit comet)

No other way to get from Banbury to London in 62 minutes.
Pretty quick if you ask me.
In any case, their primary objective is as a commuter service for Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire.
They only added the routes to Birmingham to cover the tight-wads who are too cheap to pay for the fast route from New Street
