Top 5 downloads for new desktop

What are everybody's Top 5 downloads for a new pc? eg the first 2 i could think of was picasa for my photos and handbrake for converting video for my ipod touch. i have a quadcore q6600 2gb ram and 320gb hdd with vista premium and i am NOT into gaming on my pc so more helpful download ideas would be great and also if everyone states what they are used for and why. hopefully we can get some ideas flowing to each other!!

When I got my replacement laptop a couple of months ago (previous one was covered in small child sick - yummy !!) the first things I re-downloaded/installed were:

NOD 32
superantispyware
spyware doctor
nero 8
DVD shrink
DVD Santa

Then it was just things as I remembered them, but they are the initial 6 that I know I will need almost straight away

Nero doesn't copy the disc. It burns things to discs, but DVD Shrink is the first one to use to take the dvd files off the dvd disc, then you use Nero to put these files onto a blank dvd disc. Comes in incredibly handy when you have to back up all of your childrens dvd's because they like to use them as frisbees. It doesn't work out nearly as costly when you let them have the back ups to watch/chew instead and you keep the originals safe.

Nero does cost, but there are ways of getting it for free on the internet, as long as you look in the right places . Or I think you can get a trial version for 30 days from the official website and then buy it online after. Don't know if they still do that though

I beg to differ, nero is great for disc copying if its like for like "duplication"

Oh, does that work now then with original dvd's, rather than copied dvd's? It's just when I've tried backing up dvd's in the past, it's always come up as it's protected or something and cant or wont copy it, which is why I've always gone through dvd shrink first.

Mind you, I think that was Nero 6 I last tried that with. Just my luck if you can do that now as I've probably wasted ages using dvd shirink first
