You may get cheaper short term deals, but those deals will run out within a year, at least this deal offers 3 years in the security that your bills are fixed fro 3 years !.

but they are heding against future rise. British Gas customers have just been saddled with a 35% rise in GAS cost (and 9% elecy).

Others are bound to follow suit, but essentially this is NO DEAL, just a way to try and retain customers beyond these huge price hikes.

I've just checked the 2011 fix prices - it will cost you a few percent more to fix for the three years even allowing for todays 35% gas / 9% elec rise.
It's a gamble - do you think prices will rise again?

I actually think that prices will rise more within the 3 years, just like fixed rate mortgages, I was so pleased to fix my mortgage for 5 years, was happy to pay SLIGHTLY over the odds at first, but its certainly paid off for me and im sitting pretty during this credit crunch.

But obviosly other people don't see it my why

although, I must admit I tied my gas and electric in a year or so ago, so don't need this offer

I would call for a boycott of British gas because it is them together with their parent company Centrica who orchestrated these prices increases.

LOL - how can this possibly be hot when it is 30 odd percent more expensive than it was before 9pm this evening!

To get a 'deal' either fix with someone else at the lower rates - but be quick, or, let the dust settle and see what the best option is then. With the increase that BG have announced today there will be a few weeks/months before they increase again, and there is nothing to suggest they will do, before you have to decide whether this is fix until 2011 is hot or not.

Voted cold. No one should fix to BG until 2011 before seeing how the market pans out following the announcement today.

It is posts like this which companies such as BG love. Roll up, roll up we've just massively increaed our prices and we're looking for mugs to commit to them.

Don't disagree with what you say, I fixed mine about a year ago (until 2010) glad I did it !, in the end it turned out to be a great deal, everyone who has dithered has ended paying far more now.

Anyway, none of us has a crystal ball, so who knows?, but im sure all the others will act very quickly to raise their prices.

We signed back up to British Gas a couple of years ago to find out the 'deal' was a complete con and we were paying more than our old supplier.

Needless to say I won't let BG stick it up me again and I'd rather use the BBQ through the winter than entertain anything BG falsely promised.

Shop around, EON and others are still doing capped deals. NPower just finished their offer but could do a deal if we left them and went back 28 days later? Slightly bemused that they wouldn't show any loyalty to existing customers so we just signed up with EON.

Well we done the calculations tonight after the news. It would cost us about £2k/year for Scottish Power 1 year fixed price, £1.8k for this and £1350 after the price increases on Scottish Hydro.

EON have the best deal at the moment - if you live anywhere near Hastings or Bexhill call Tom at EON ( 07772 562820 ) and he will do you an AMAZING deal. I shopped around yesterday for hours and EON came out by far the best deal now British Gas have dumped on its customers.
Tom will cap your prices (they can go down but won't go up) and basically the deal he did for me meant as of today I now pay just about the same amount as I was paying with British Gas BEFORE today's 35% price rise!!!

So if you're down on the sunny south coast then call Tom at EON - he's a totally nice guy and sorts it out in a flash - it really is a no brainer! If you're not on the south cost then just call EON - they rock! But do it soon because they might have to up the prices soon, who knows.. that's why it's great to cap the prices.

The old Price Guarantee 2009 that BG were running before todays price increase was still valid until the end of today, which meant if anyone phoned up after the price increase was announced specifically requesting PG2009 they could have still got it, only paying 9.8% on top of the old prices not 35%. Wish I could have got home from work earlier to have posted this before the call centres closed! (I work for BG).

Obviously this was kept on the quiet :/

Yeah I phoned up to check my rates with British Gas and said it looked like I was going to switch to EON and they got desperate and started coming up with these deals - fixed at the new HIGH rate until 2011 (what a JOKE!) and then the old rate fixed for a year - but with 9.8% on top of that, so basically if you have gas and electricity then the electricity is fixed at the new rate - so it's a con too... but that has finished too anyway.

Another thing to note is that the prices British Gas quoted me were WITHOUT the VAT. EON do not mislead you, they give you the rates including VAT.... BAD FORM, BRITISH GAS!

EON had the best deal simply because they have lower prices and cap their rates (better than fixing) - don't hesitate, do it now!
