No idea about the realiablity of most the sites though.

Lambda-tek i've used before but they don't have the cheaper inkright ones in stock also be carefull of their page that redirects to other merchants if they don't have stock since it finds the wrong toner

Bah don't need Lexmarks wireless, if its hard-wired to your wireless router it will be able to be printed to from wireless

Got it today,

So far got Vista X64 on my desktop and Vista 32 on my houstmates desktop to print to it no trouble, Vista had a driver but I decided to put lexmarks on (doesnt make much difference i don't think)

Told my router to assign it the same IP everytime it sees it on the network to make things a lot easier.

OSX on my macbook found it via Bonjour I used the driver from the lexmark site no idea if I really needed it or not since OSX then found a newer driver though software update apperently.

Not tried the XP machines yet hopefully they will be just as easy.

Print quality looks fine so for me I think it was quite a good deal not sure why others disagree

Laser printers for this price point aren't that uncommon but how many of them have an inbuilt print server

Probably as you will need to buy a new expensive cartridge soon, and its a lexmark!

I think the Lexmark name puts people off....

While Lexmark Inkjets are dire their Laser Printers are actually quite good. The reviews on this model are favourable and that was when it was over £100.

If you print text mainly and in a reasonable volume then a laser makes sense.

Yes toners do cost more than inkjet cartridges but you get an awful lot more prints out of them. The cost per sheet is much less. On this printer the toner cartridge is rated at 2,000 pages, although the one in the box is only 500 but I normally find you get a bit more than they say.

Another factor is that laser printers are much better built than most inkjets, primarily due to the higher duty cycle. (typically 10,000 pages per month).

+ Network Capable out of the box.
Many cheap laser printers cannot be added simply attached to a network print server box. Some network print servers say they can do GDI printing (e.g. HP ) but it's a case suck it and see. If you have a cheap Canon Laser try searching for "CAPT Print Server" and see the ridiculous cost.

Network capability is useful in the home. It makes it much easier to share the printing with other house members.

+ Toner can be refilled
But make sure you get a kit with the replacement chip.... It's a remove plug, fill and replace chip.

+ Incentive to recycling
If you don't want to go down the route of copy / refilled cartridges Lexmark do a scheme where they will replace the toner at a lower price. I think it's about £42-50 depending on the reseller you go through.

Without going through the recycle scheme a genuine toner is about £60.

- Drum separate to toner
This brings the price of the toner down but the drum needs replacing every 25,000 prints. Luckily they are only about £30.

I used to have a Brother HL 1250 laser printer. very good but it's drum lasted about 15,000-20,000 pages but it was about £100+ to replace. Definitely not economic.

- Small starter cartridge.
Only rated at 500 sheets. Normally a starter cartridge is half the normal capacity but this one is a quarter.

I am seriously considering this model for home. SWIMBO is a teacher and prints off rainforests to keep her school bills down and then she wonders why her ink cartridges don't last....
Also we are planning on using it to print the text for the order of service, invitations etc for you wedding.

Competition:
Samsung have replaced their bottom of the range with the ML-2210 which has no refill solution at the moment. (but I am sure it will come).

HP P1005. Smaller and smaller toner (1,500 sheets). Refillable using melt and pour method + chip. Needs a GDI capable network print server (Edimax do one but the offiicial compatibility list is small)

Canon LBP2900i. Uses older HP toner. Refillable via melt and pour. Needs a very expensive CAPT capable print server for networking.

Brother - Reviews (user and magazines) mention paper curling. user reviews mention that feed problems occur after about 1 year's use.
