"And if you don't make five hundred polo shirts today, you're not getting paid, and you can forget about having any food."

I'd rather put my kids in something more comfortable than the poor quality those shirts must be for that price.

More comfortable clothing will help their concentration

Nevertheless good deal for those on a tight school budget.

Well done all who get this deal.
Without you, Indian children may not be able to take that rupee back to their families every month.

and if I can't get food on my table because I've spent a fortune on school uniform it will be my children who suffer. My priority lies with my kids first - sorry!

Don't forget the blood on your hands.

A clear conscience costs nothing. If you are able to buy these for school uniforms, then that suggests they only need plain, generic clothes. There are far better quality and more ethically friendly places to buy that sort of thing that doesn't mean you have to starve the kids. Plus if you shop in Asda, they're the cheapest supermarket anyway so you won't spend a fortune on food!

We should blame the children for making them. It would be foolish to expect you to think responsibly.

I just wish someone would ask Asda how on earth they manage to produce these at that price - I only hope its a line being subsidised by profits elsewhere in the store.

I love a bargain, but am really uneasy about the price of these polo shirts - do they say on them where they are made?

That has to be one of the most awful posts I've ever read on here. Unbelievable from a parent!!

If YOU can't afford school uniforms etc then perhaps you should send YOUR kids out to work rather than relying on the abuse of other children?

I'd like to think that there is an element of truth in this.

As someone quite rightly stated

'The questions are do you stop shopping there so that the child has no work at all? Do you stop in the hope it will improve their pay/conditions? or do you carry on knowing that at least the child has some form of work?

I only say this as my husband went to a factory in India last year. There was a boy of about 7 with no shoes on sorting bolts. He was horrified at this child labour until later in the visit he saw families scavaging in the rubbish for something to either eat or sell. Who is better off?'

Don't be so naive! Sounds to me like someone is using any excuse to try to clear their conscience!

Their pay and conditions will never improve if you continue to buy such products. The more demand for cheap products from the West can only increase the demand for sweat shops and the cruel abuse of children who are often beaten and scolded by the "employers". The increase demand will increase competition forcing these barbaric employers to make these children work harder so that they can sell the products cheaper.

By not buying these products because of the conditions you are sending a message saying that you are not prepared to see children suffer this way. This will NOT put children out of jobs but will push their employers to treat the children in a more humane way and perhaps, with a bit of pressure on the governments of these countries, these children will one day be entitled to something that your children are entitled to..An education and the need for a school poloshirt!!!
