this doesn't come close to the Sony Vaio deal.

You are only missing the larger hard drive and Sony 'brand'. Spec wise it is otherwise identical - even includes the same chipset, doesn't use one of the cheaper and further cut-down Intel or *shudder* Sis ones other <£350 laptops can do. Also has a 6 cell battery, again, larger than the 4-cells you'd normally get at this price.

I'm certainly not saying it's a substitute (it isn't!), but, it's a good runner up if you are looking for a good cheap (<£300) laptop.

£299.99 now seems to be the standard price for this model - amazon, laptopsdirect, cclonline and ebuyer.
Ebuyer currently comes in at £299.63 delivered (super saver delivery)

Guess I should learn not to trust Google Product search ;)

Personally I'm happy with Amazon, I have prime so the 6p is worth next day delivery. Otherwise, yes, probably best from eBuyer if you can wait

Cold due to the fact that Acer is forcing you to run their bloatware; without the laptop will not run properly. Also doesn't support any other OS but Vista. Sony/HP/Toshiba/Dell much better and same prices.

Gonna stick my head out here and say hot.

Unless someone can point me to a better deal for under £299? Looking for as cheap as possible with a decent processor.

Forcing ?
Take it off!
Ten minute job, about as non-techie as any PC maintenance gets - ALL the manufacturers put junk on anyway, and Microsoft think everything installed on a PC needs to run from bootup, but it doesn't.

Biggest problem with Acer is mixed reliablilty, and lousy customer service.

Well that's handy for those with a Time machine, but if you want one now because your Laptop blew up yesterday?

The nature of most deals posted on here is the fact they are going to run out if you don't get a move on!
