I'm still using my e270. It's a great player and I prefer it to my wife's ipod nano. Also there's a microSD slot so you can add another 2GB to your player (no support for SDHC from my experience) for about a fiver!

What is the software like to sync music to this thing? I'm very unsure about getting anything that isnt an iPod is because frankly all the software I've ever used besides iTunes has been absolute garbage. Have you seen the POS that Sony think is worthy of release? I can not comprehend how a huge corporation could put out such a bad piece of software. So yeah, does this thing come with software that isnt complete junk?

Update: Nevermind, this thing uses Windows Media Player 10, which is absolutely vile for making playlists and getting cover art, but I guess it's cheaper for them than going the Sony route and writing their own vile app completely from scratch.

In fairness to recent Sony MP3 players, they have been much improved in that aspect, Sony finally giving in and the players now support drag and drop as they install to Xp/Vista as MTP devices instead. I would never have said any Sony MP3 player was a POS, all have had excellent sound and build q2uality, but now to their advantage instead of having POS Sonicstage software, you dont have to suffer that anymore.

Not just Sansa and Sony, I for one know that Samsung and Creative ALL do not support MP3 album art directly with WMP, there are plenty of utilities for doing so though after ripping your CD's MP3Tag being a fantastic free one which will import if you so wish album art from Amazon along with track titles and embed into the files the ID3 tagging necessary to display album art on MP3 players that need the ID3 tagging embedded album art, as do all the players I have listed above.

Never really been an issue once you know what you are doing.

Anyone thinking about purchasing one of these Sansa's please bear in mind there are two revisions, tehy clearly state that the one being sold is the older v1 that only supports upto 2gb MicroSD, the newer one supports MicroSDHC and larger support.

However apparantly here is a custom firmware/software rockbox release only for (at present) this revision1 version that open up the player to larger MicroSD support, flashing your player like this though clearly isnt without risks.

I have one Rockbox'ed e280 and two C240's, both far better for it. It is impossible to brick either an e280 or c240 with Rockbox. I don't have one myself, but the Rockbox forums confirm that at least 8Gb microSDHC work, although you currently need an external reader to transfer music to a microSDHC card.

No idea if this model is any good, but I have a little Sandisk mp3 player bought when Staples were flogging them off a couple of years ago - excellent sound quality, pretty sturdy, and easy to use - so I would recommend this brand.

Same player as mine, great quality sound and easily upgradeable if you like it loud (flash with USA firmware to get rid of pesky EU noise limiter)

Small and well built and the battery seems to last forever on one charge.

16GB Sandisk Sansa View is on sale at Amazon from around £90 (£102 from Amazon itself) which is a newer version of the Sansa. That seems like a better deal than this one.

"Copy /B".

Most mp3 players that aren't ipods allow you to use any software you want. Unfortunately the ipod forces you to use the garbage that is itunes. (well, until you get sick of the default firmware and put rockbox on it anyway).

You can use whatever software you want. Most people would just use windows explorer/mac finder (or their OS' equivalent), but if they really needed software to do it for them they would be free to choose any.

Just to confirm, I have a Sansa e280 (v1), and am using Rockbox + 8gb microSDHC card. Its ace. Unfortunately, Rockbox doesn't support the v2 Sansa models at present from what I have read (yet/ever).

I don't have the need to "sync" anything either, but when I want to copy music to (and from) my Sansa, as the guy above me says, I just use normal file copy functions - the way god intended. For me, iTunes would just be an unnecessary & combersome extra layer of software.

Personally I now could not live with a MP3 player that didn't support Rockbox. I'd be missing out on the joys of ReplayGain, Crossfade, Crossfeed, customisable While Playing Screen, customisable GUI (bakground image, colours etc), FLAC, many other codecs for formats new/old/obscure/popular, Doom, GameBoy emu, on-the-fly playlists, text viewer, demos, games, JPEG viewer, MPEG1/2 player, album art etc etc
