Is the warning/suspension system working?

POSTED BY: Syzable 3 months, 1 week ago

There seems to be less and less regard for the infractions and suspensions given out now than ever before.

I'm constantly seeing in the for sale forum people falling over themselves making offers to the OP saying when you're back will you take xx.xx and things like i'm sure you were suspended for something ridiculous anyway. When they do get suspended........shouldn't their threads be locked up then else they just come back and carry on and still get all their sales albeit a day later?

There seems to be no respect for them at all.........in Misc, infractions and suspensions have become the all new badge of honour where the more they have then the greater the kudos is in their minds.

There are "look at me.....i'm back. Aren't i a hero for being suspended threads' and people compaining and judging all the decisions made.

Is it now time to stamp this out and make the punishments more severe?

If we're harsher with punishments, we get accused of being too strict..

With regards to FS forum infractions, we work on the tier system (depending on the offence.)
We do lock the thread on which the rule breach occured, however we don't currently lock all of their other threads.

We no longer allow the "I'm back from suspension threads".. so if there are any still out there it's because they've got under the radar.

From my point of view, the system is the only way to achieve the balance of keeping both parties happy- members are being punished when they break the rules, but they are also being given a second chance to get it right.

But that's partly my point......answer back in private to get it sorted is fine and how it should be done. But it seems to becoming the norm to question it on the forum in public which is wrong as the infraction isn't public knowledge.

Which is not the way to do it? In private like i think or in public on the forums?

I'm not here to judge who got infractions for what.....my complaint was how some people think it's the in thing to do.

Personally I think it should be done in private...HOWEVER...once infraction received then you can't PM.....and CONTACT US doesnt always get a reply (Prob about 4 times in my experience).....

Would be better if you were only allowed to PM Mods or something

Totally agree with you there Sy. (Can't comment on the FS/FT as I rarely venture in there nowadays.)

One of the biggest "problems" I've seen is the continual baiting of members in the misc. forum. There's a few people on misc. who seem to delight in starting threads which they are well aware will cause problems amongst members.

It's a difficult thing to moderate I would think as there becomes a fine line between allowing "freedom of speech" and "freedom to incite". I'm all for open debate but in reality this very rarely happens and controversial subjects just end up in name calling, abuse and the thread locked.

Seems to me members need to learn a couple of things, self control in not being drawn into those subjects where they cannot control their feelings and how to use the "ignore" function,
The members that post these baiting threads have no respect for anything other than satisfying their own attention seeking needs and will soon stop posting if nobody responds.

Difficult I know as most of us at some stage or other have responded to these "trolls" but it is the only way to get rid of them and not get oneself into trouble.

Just my opinion.

Wow - great post Hotto and I'm sure many others will agree with you (as I do)...

As for Sy's point about suspensions/infractions - I think infractions are less serious however suspensions I understand are for more serious, consistant breaches so should perhaps be taken more seriously. Unfortunately if they deal out longer suspensions people will just re-register under a new user name...

Maybe if you get suspended you should lose all your rep.....
