Program to test if a memory stick is genuine?

POSTED BY: TanyaSpace 1 year, 2 months ago

I read about this on here before...
People talked about memory stick pro duo´s and that they
tested if it was real sticks or fakes with a program.
What´s the program called and where can I get it?

:)

You serious?
I have 2 fake ones here and both of them work fine.
Just cuz they´re fakes doesn´t mean they don´t work...

I thought there was a program that actually tells you if you got a genuine one or
a cheap fake from china...Cuz I bought an 8GB stick 3 days ago off ebay (item number 270270263305 for anyone who´s interested)
for not even 14 pounds delivered
and the guy says they´re genuine...So I wanna check once it gets here.

wiki:
MagicGate is a copy-protection technology introduced by Sony in 1999 as part of the Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI). It works by encrypting the content on the device and using MagicGate chips in both the storage device and the reader to enforce control over how files are copied.

MagicGate encryption is used in the memory cards of the PlayStation 2 and, as of 2004, has been introduced into all of Sony's Memory Stick products. Some devices, such as Sony's Network Walkman, will only accept Memory Sticks which use MagicGate technology.

All Memory Stick Duo cards equipped with MagicGate can be identified by a notch located on the rear end of the card.

Let's see... eBay + Hong Kong + Memory Card + unrealistic price... nah could never be a fake .

I'd never buy memory sticks / cards off eBay, not worth the risk when you can buy legite cards for a few pounds extra.

Well i don´t worry about it really.
If it´s a fake I will get a refund through paypal if the seller doesn´t want to give it me...
And as it´s a counterfeit stick and I don´t have to return it (as per that guide I got linked to
a few posts up)

Btw, a "legit" 8GB memory stick from the UK costs more than a few pounds extra lol

Alright a legite 8GB card will be but up to 4GB shouldn't be too hard on the pocket.

8GB will set you back anywhere between £17 - £23 though it varies depending on what you buy and from where (obv).

Three ways of achieving your goal:

[1] 8GB PRO DUO
[2] 8GB M2 + adapter
[3] 8GB MicroSD + adapter

Cheapest last .

MicroSD can be bought for about £16 (cheaper elsewhere but out of stock), then the adapter should only be £3 tops depending on where you buy it.

So £17 is possible but only when promotions / stock allows.
