Retail Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade with Service Pack 1

£68.99

-117°

FOUND BY: dagwoood 1 year, 2 months ago

STARTS: 01/09/2008

This is the Upgrade version of Vista Home Premium; basically if you're running either Windows XP or Windows 2000 you can upgrade to Vista.

An OEM license is (normally) a cheaper upgrade route, but as this is a retail upgrade, it means you can make major hardware changes and you shouldn't have any problems re-activating.

This offer is available on-line with free standard delivery or via Collect @ Store.

You could pay for it with the money you get from selling all the peripherals it won't recognise.

Vista is the biggest computer buying error I ever made...

Not sure about Price, But dont believe the Vista knockers!!!!
Vista is an amazing operating system, I run the 64 bit version, I have NO ISSUES at all with drivers, its the most stable operating system yet. I run IT department with over 300 comupters and since installing Vista my work load has been cut by a 1/3.
Only issue's I have are with Users not knowing what they are doing, Not the operating system.
So if you have problems, its your lack of knowledge not the software. Buy a book and use the web if you have problems, dont blame your lack of knowledge on a multi million pound operating system!!
No i do not work for Microsoft and i also run Linux which is also very good.
For home users i would recommend Vista Premium to anyone Over XP, windows 2000 or Linux

Don't upgrade to Vista!!! unless you have a very powerful computer or want to upgrade your computer, cpu and memory. It is not true what people say. VISTA NEEDS A POWERFUL COMPUTER! Older models will not run properly. I have tried Vista even without Aero (as basic) but its still too slow. I know that we will all use Vista in the years to come, Microsoft will make sure of that, but don't rush into it now. Most people I know who buy new computers throw out Vista for either XP or Ubuntu/Linux. These people are experienced computer user.

Vista works OK for me.

But I got it pre-installed on a new Dell laptop with a decent spec.

If you want to upgrade make sure that your PC is fairly modern, and that it will support Vista OK. Also ask yourself why you are upgrading.

This offer might be good for all those losers who chose XP rather than Vista on their new system

Am not a Microsoft boy, and wouldn't upgrade an existing PC from XP to Vista (why spend money om something that works and risk an unstable system?) but when it comes on a new PC, fine. New PC's are designed to run Vista, and it is slightly more secure than XP and at least as stable as XP (that's my personal view). There's some nice features but no killer apps you're waiting for. ANd yes, you need powerful hardware (that's why netbooks = cheap small laptops come with Linux or XP).

And yes, Ubuntu is free and people should definitely try it (I was well impressed, comes with all you need), but it's not like Vista is bad or evil. Apple has a macopoly too etc.

Those systems will be running much faster than than your shiny new Vista O/S. There is absolutely no reason to upgrade from XP. In fact there are more reasons to downgrade from Vista.

When buying my latest Dell XPS M1530 laptop at the start of the year I was tempted to stick with XP, or to dual boot due to all the horror stories.

But I have had no problems with hardware or software compatability, and the XP operating system was soon forgotten.

I find Vista to be smooth, fast, responsive and stable, XP would be a backward step.

As I said, if upgrading you need to be certain that your PC is modern and capable of running Vista, do NOT believe the "Vista Capable" stickers

But for anybody who has recently purchased a new high spec PC, and mistakenly chose XP over Vista, this is a good deal.

Choosing XP over Vista sounds more like common sense than a mistake - as a computer tech, networks are an absolute nightmare with Vista, avoid like the plague!!

Ok, Vista has it's detractors; the Vista vs XP debate is going to last a while.

Whether you like it or not though, this is a good price; I haven't seen anywhere that gets close to this price for this particular version.
