I work at Sainsbury's and people often give vouchers to me on items they havn't bought, if they have been nice during the transaction, talking back to me etc. I would usually take them, but if not then I wouldn't accept it.

So be nice, there are some absolutely mardy ******s out there that don't even look at you when you serve them.

at my local asda they had covered up the voucher slots on the self service checkouts so you have to ask for help. That way the staff can check what you are putting in the slots to make sure you have bought the items that you need for the voucher. scum bags

but there policy was you dont have to buy the item that the voucher is for

I used them at till with no problems as under that policy there isnt really a reason not to accept them

Most chart books at Asda and Tesco are £3.70 or £3.80 something or other...does that mean that it's intended that you use this voucher to get the book for 20/30 pence? Even for that this is a hot deal.

I used one of these Daily Mail book vouchers at our local Tesco a couple of months ago.

The checkout lady simply said, "Let's try it", and when it scanned OK I got the money taken off my bill, no problem, even though I hadn't bought the book.

From what I can see, Tesco will often treat these vouchers the same as other 'money off'' coupons. They will be accepted even if you haven't bought the product.

As said previously, please be polite and courteous to the checkout staff. If I was faced with some ignorant, obnoxious customer, I wouldn't want to be helpful to them!

Voucher doesn't work in Tesco's. Just tried it. And for that reason, I'M OUT!
