multi-tool availiable from 8th Sept - Lidl - £3.99

I have a Leatherman that I have seen for over £100 in some places here. The smallest screwdriver was used often - but only for connecting wiring in electrical fittings (normally housed in plastic so too much force cannot be used) and with small screws in computer components.

The edge is now entirly off it - like bits have broken off. So I don't really rate the quality.

The Lidl one looks good - but lacks the all important cork screw!

to all the owners of leathermans have you ever sent them back for repair? they come with a 25 year warranty. MIne has been away 3 times with no cost for repair, I originally sent it away due to the play in the pliers but came back like new! Worth a try address can be found via the web site.

I had thought about doing this. The end of the driver I guess had defective metal, but I did not fancy sending it incase they claimed it had been abused (which it has not).

I've got the Leatherman Micra and I'd like to send it back for sharpening but it's too useful to be without - what's their turnaround? I've also had other multi-tool type gadgets bought for me but they've all fallen apart, get a Leatherman and you only buy it once.

Just to second the note above re: Leatherman Warranty. I sent a friends away for him (Which was company engraved), got it back under a week with a replacement set of pliers affixed to it. The previous pair were damaged whilst going through 6mm cable OOps! Nonetheless, still repaired no questions under the 25 year warranty. You won't get that from cheapo ones!!!

Bought one - I resisted a week - but am a gadget addict.

Its my fourth multitool this month. (Dog bone spanner, bike multi key, bike tool kit, now this).

Its big and heavy!

End on its about 4 times the size of my leatherman, and possesses a knuckle duster quality.

Big pliers (but not as big edge on).

Tools on one side are...

Smallish blade (given the size of it overall).
Medium sized flat blade screwdriver with bottle opener on same blade.
Small bladed screwdriver - but the tip is too thick for the width of the blade so its unlikely to be used.
A thing that is a cross between an awl and a blade.
Nailfile/hook disgorger, and either saw or fish scaler.

On the other side....

Medium to small Philips screw driver.
Can opener.
Square shaft for using with screwdriver bits.
Medium flat bladed screwdriver.

All the above are at the inside of the grip when the took is set as pliers and the outside when closed normally.

The square shaft accommodates one of 11 bits attached via the 12th (square to hexagonal convertor). The 11 are 3 philips, 3 flat blade, and 5 allen keys, which surprisingly fits in the belt case that is supplied too.

The allen keys are standard bike sizes - but the entire thing is really too heavy to carry as a bike tool,

WIthout using it - it feels solid and offers the confidence that it would not break if a lot of force was used. From its size grip is good, and is enhanced with eight rubberised sections on the handle. But there is duplication in the blades - so it could have been thought out a little better.

However, at £3.99 you cannot really go wrong.
