Sky+ "deal"

POSTED BY: houseofhunters 2 months, 1 week ago

My mum has fallen foul of a Sky "deal" which says you can have basic sky package, limited free calls, broadband and a sky+ box for £16/mth with £30 connection.

She was happy with freeview, talktalk line rental/free calls/broadband for £30 but the other deal seemed fab! She called & spoke with Sky who confirmed this was as she had thought.

It now turns out that ordinairily a check is done during the first call with sky to see that they can provide broadband in her area, this was not done (unbeknown to her) as she was not with BT with her line rental (not her fault I would say) - why they did not check with her postcode I do not know??!

She is now locked in to BT line rental and it will cost £70 to get out of it

She has written (more than once) to sky and the best deal she can get is another £17 per month (£33/mth in total) + £50 connection in order to get the broadband....any suggestions what she can do or who can can speak to to sort this mess out, or even what other company she can go to???? Many many thanks for any help...

they check the line after the PC check!!

you should get a 30day cooling off period! ... ask for the proof that ya mam has actually requested this service (ie: her recorded calls)

There's normally a cooling off period, 7 or 14 days. Has this passed?

Just spoke to mum; sky have said they will let her out of deal and refund £30 connection, but as said before she is still locked in with BT.

Bascially she would rather be back to where she started or with someone else of equilvalent deal (or better) but she is stuck with Bt line rental or £70 charge to get out of that.

Can anoyone suggest a better deal?

Before all this started she had nothing to do with BT (her line rental / broadband / free calls) was with talk talk for £30.

Now she is stuck with BT (and their standard line rental) unless she pays them £70 to get out of their contract.

If she got rid of Sky she would then need to find Broadband, a deal for phone calls & potentially a better deal for line rental. She would also be worse off (as far as the deal she believed she was getting from sky) as she wouldn't have sky+ any more or their free channels

but if she never requested BT (why would she?).. then bollox, get SKY to pay for it. Tell BT your contacting your CAB and for BT to get onto SKY!

If she transfers back to talktalk bt will send her a bill for early termination.
If she is confident that she really did not agree to the transfer of line at any time, then tell them to stuff the bill.
I did much the same for removal of my isdn line when i went to broadband, maybe bt tried to bill the isp i don't know but i never paid the cutoff charge

But the deal she thought she was getting with sky was £16/month plus BT line rental (what's that £15/mth?? - not sure)), which included line rental (clearly!), basic sky package (& sky+box), broadband & limited calls.

She was paying £30 for line rental, unlimited calls, broadband (and was happy with her freeview.

It seems she is worse off whatever all down to Sky's inadequacies as their operative didn't bother to check of they could provide her with broadband prior to her chaing over.

They couldn't care less and she would either rather she had the deal she had originally (and had nothing to do with sky) or got the deal she thought (and they confirmed) she would be getting with them...

Her sky+ box is due to be removed from her house in four days..

its not personal but the sales person should have preformed the search before
they put pen to paper. if you can prove you were misled you can get money back
from sky. or the contract is void
