GAP INSURANCE

-35°

FOUND BY: miss moneysaver 1 year, 2 months ago

This is my first post and hope that some people will benefit from this. Only relevant if you are getting or just got a new car.

I picked up my new car this weekend and was offered a product called GAP Insurance from the dealership for £349. I thought that was rather alot and decided to shop it around. I found a company called ala.co.uk with a good website and more importantly saved myself over £200! Plus found a promotion code (STA1052), which gave me another 5% off.

Hope this helps.

The problem with insurance company's are they all have different idea's of what type of customer they want and price there insurance accordingly. What may be a good deal for yourself might not be for somebody with different circumstances. I remember recommending an insurance company to all my mates that I found when I first started driving, even though on paper they looked to be far more insurable than myself ie driving for longer, no claims bonus etc. They where getting quoted alot more than I was as a new driver.

i dont think you got it cheap, i think you got it for normal price, but were making a mistake of comparing it to a price offered by a main dealer...

Thanks for your comments. As I have learn't, Gap Insurance is different to normal car insurance as the price is calculated on the value of the car and the amount of cover you want. The individual buying it does not play a part in the premium.

Back to Invoice wasn't applicable to me as I am on a Personal Contract Hire arrangement. I just wanted to cover myself for any protentional shortfall should my car be stolen or wriiten off, so I took out Contract Hire Gap.

So what is it
the biggest con ever.....so, i insure my new car and if its written off i get whatever the insurer decides to give me, which is less than anyone else thinks its worth - even industry experts, car dealers, glass' guide, etc...

so becasue they short change you, they then have the cheek to sell you an additional insurance which covers you for something i think they should providing in the first place!!

motor insurance is a scam, if any other business did this we would be in uproar...they get away with it cause its a legal requirement

think about - order a mcdonald's 'meal' (yuck i know) and you dont get the fried..."thats extra money sir"

pay to on a train from london to manchester and they kick you off 3/4 of the way

pay for a flight from london to oz and they kick you off at Hong Kong..

dont bother, save the money and put it towards the amount of excess he'll have to pay if he crashes, that'll be more to worry about than the depreciation. lol.
unless its an expensive car, its not normally worth getting.

GAP is great on any car you just bought, well worth it. Bought my wife an £8,500 Corsa, Gap was £150, if the car gets written off then I lose nothing other than the £150. I used to sell this too lol, the dealer I worked for sold it for £249, regardless of the cost it's better than losing thousands when your insurer decides to give you sod all for your cherished car.

Voted hot, don't vote if you don't understand it. More people should be made aware of GAP insurance, virtually every person I spoke to when I sold a car had never heard of it, the vast majority bought a policy because they saw the value in it.
