Don't see LaCie drives as being any more special than any other of dozens of drives available all over. If anything, it actually looks a bit on the big size!

eg the first one I clicked on was cheaper at £89.99 delivered

I have several external HDD's including 2 by Lacie.....& I would choose them every time over any other make I have used, I find the write speeds & access times superior to the Western Digital & seagate drives I also own

Cheapest isn't always best

I've got a Lacie big ethernet drive, less than a year old and it's packed up. Taking ages to get a warranty done on it and I won't get my data back.

I bought a 250G Lacie 5 years ago, it is still working perfectly. I just ordered a 1T Lacie last week though it is not the same as this one.

I work for a large IT organisation where we go through thousands of HDDs every year....in my experience the best are Seagate and the worst Western Digital.

Most of the rest are much of a muchness.

Seagate drives tend to be quiet, too, but my rating/opinion above is based on MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure)

Bearing in mind LaCie don't make the actual drives, and it's someone else's in their housing... who does?

I have a 500Gb drive I paid 35 quid for on a red hot Deal from here it's branded ATMT, but it is a Seagate inside, so the brand in this case means very little!
