Energy Saving Monitor for approx £9 ( price of 8 Daily Mails and a 0904 phone call + p&p )

£9.00

207°

FOUND BY: neilc 1 year, 2 months ago

According to

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/prmts/article-1054676/3-million-energy-saving-bonanza--free-reader.html

they are giving away an Energy Saving Monitor if you buy 8 Mails and ring a "hotline" number.

Seems a good price considering one is in deals at £25.

It looks similar but I am no boffin.

The Mail costs from 70p so about £6.00

If anyone misses out on the deal then the device can be had for £29.95 inc free delivery at...

http://www.ethicalsuperstore.com/pro...nergy-monitor/

Not sure if it's the cheapest but only know of this one place since it was posted up as a deal a few weeks back

It's also worth phoning up your supplier - a number of tehm are giving these devices away with certain packages that reward you for reducing your energy use.

I know EON and Scottish & Southern are in any case.

Lidl ones are £7 when advertised!!!!

Totally different though as LIDL one is a plug in to appliance device.

if your expecting to find out the *total* amount of electricity used in your house, then you'll be disappointed.

this is just an extension lead that plugs into a socket, so it's useless to monitor your wired in stuff eg shower, (some) electric cookers, central heating, alarms, fire alarms, house lights etc..

and it will possibly be very hard to monitor certain items that have hidden plugs, freezers/ tumble dryer (depending on it's fitted)

if you know that, then its hot, don't expect the device to connect to your elect meter or distribution box, for that you need a different sensor

most energy providers are giving away these energy monitors, and they are the wireless versions that actually attach to your elecric meter

I've got one of these:

hanging on the wall by the kitchen table.

Obviously, these devices only tell you the TOTAL current consumption. Of course, if you then switch something else on (such as a tumble dryer!) you can see it jump to the new current consumption.

It's saved me a fortune (I exaggerate, more than a little) because it's made us very aware of what electricity we're using at any one time. We used to leave lights on all around the house and don't do that any more. We used to put a fire on to take the chill off a room and then forget about it and we don't do that any more.

If you're like us, this monitor should pay for itself within the year.
