Did you get the recent cheap tickets to the USA? Get an extra 11% off at Macy's department stores in the USA

23°

FOUND BY: thesilverfox 1 year, 2 months ago

Discount:
11% on all purchases in store
Minimum Spend:
£0.01
Promotional Code:
None required - just show your passport!
Expiry:
Add an expiry date
Applies to:
This offer applies to anyone visiting the states, or anyone outside of the state they are visitng.
Instructions:
This offer is dead easy, and I would imagine that most people going across the pond will go into a Macy's store at some point - you'd be mad not to.

I know it's not strictly a UK deal, but it is useful to know anyway, especially seeing as thousands of people will be heading stateside in the coming months, what with the recent flight offers that were snapped up.

For those of you going to New York, this will be a really useful way of not getting stung on the state tax (which we all forget about at first!), which I think was 8% (so still a 3% saving on top of that)

International visitors can receive 11% off by showing your passport and receiving the 'Welcome International Savings Card', which can be used for 30 days after it is validated. All you need to do is flash the passport, ask for your discount and that's it.

Domestic visitors can also get 11% discount if you can prove you are from out of state too - easily done if you have a hotel address or reservation.

I'm currently working in Delaware, where there is zero VAT and sales tax, so this is an extra 11% of tag prices, which makes everything an absolute bargain. With the £/$ conversion around 1.8 at the moment (and still climbing!), now is a good time to think about buying dollars and going shopping.

I figure as ever, that the deal will go bone cold, because nobody here can benefit in the UK, but if it helps a few people who travel save a few $$$, then my work here is done.

edit: ramraideruk has advised that a similar discount is available at Bloomingdales too - absolutely huge store!

All feedback welcome. I've never really come across any deals before (that someone has not already posted), so hopefully this will be useful to someone.

They've always done this @ NY you have to go up to the first floor and get a red card from them

Bloomingdales do the discount too. And remember there's no sales tax, in NY, if the purchase is under $110

I was unaware that Bloomingdales did this too - thanks for that - rep ;)

My colleague purchased perfume and received the 11% discount, so be careful - it might be the sales assistant pulling the other one.

@juliet_bravo: I meant that I looked on HUKD for a Macy's deal and drew blanks.

hi silver

I suppose it could be different concessions that can choose opt out of discounts? i know all sorts of department stores in the UK have a similar policy

worth asking around to find out though

Of course there is sales tax in NYC... if you're there for a while, make sure you check out Century 21 its a bit like TK Maxx but my friends always come back with the best bargins from there. Otherwise if time permits head into New Jersey to do your stopping their sales tax is less than NYC (or at least it was when I was there in 2005). Jersey Gardens was a great outlet centre... lots of stores (Nike, GAP, Victoria Secrets, Banana Republic, Old Navy are a few I remember) I am sure they have a web site too.. oh here it is http://www.jerseygardens.com

Anyway voting this HOT!

Actually I think when I was in NYC, the sales tax about 13% I know that the Macy's discount card almost cancelled the tax.

C21 is at Ground Zero. It has premium brands for VERY cheap prices. If you want suits, this is the place to go ;)

However, TJ Maxx is the same as TK Maxx ... I spent $250 in one the other night - one purchase was an Ecko polo shirt that is £40 in the UK and was priced at a whopping $2! Most t-shirts are $10, Levi's denim jackets $50, very cheap luggage too - grabbed a Samsonite suitcase for $70.

I am fortunate that my company is based in Wilmington, Delaware (obvious tax implications), but yeah, NY can be a bit more expensive, so this deal will help to neutralise sales tax.

Glad that some people will benefit

periwinkl: nobody will just offer this to you - it is your requirement to ask for it! So many people don't know about this, so if you happen to be there, just ask - it can't hurt!

p.s. can anyone tell me why I can't see this thread in the 'discussed' area with all items? I guess because I made the thread?

A really good tip , if you're going to C21, the old A&F store is ten minutes walk from there. You'll find it much easier to get your A&F stuff there than the 5th Avenue store (where there are big queues just to get in!).

The Sales tax exemption in New York City only applies to clothes and shoes - the $110 upper limit was removed recently. Neighbouring state New Jersey (and a few other states) offer this tax exemption too. In recent years I doubt the tax rate has ever been as high as 13%. It is currently just over 8%.

Are you sure about the Bloomingdale store discount? They have tended to offer a free gift to foreign visitors who spend over $100. (Although I once came across a voucher in a magazine for the same offer with $50 spend)

Barring any recent changes, the discount card excludes cosmetics and fragrances - and almost certainly jewelry and watches as well as specific clothing brands.

The card is scanned and the discount automatically given - so the sales assistant will have no influence on it unless she manually inputs a discount.
