I just got this mouse today and it is an excellent mouse. The 3-way scroll works in Vista (I could not get it to work in XP). The wheel is programmable as well to varius keyboard functions such as F-keys, copy, paste, etc. Action is very smooth (adjustable speed) and the mouse buttons are low noise and very sensitive. The mouse is quite big and if you have a big hand like me, this is an ideal mouse. I recommend to try it, you can always return it. If you are lefthanded like me, the forward and back button (side buttons) are not repeated on the left, except for that it is suitable for left hand also. Oh yes, it's USB connector.

Are the DPI controls on the mouse like the Logitech MX518 or via the driver software?

You change the DPI with the little button on top (DPI) and the LCD's (red, green, yellow) are situated just at 7 o'clock but you can't see them very well on the picture.

DPI changes the accuracy of the cursor on the corresponding resolution display.

I have tried that mouse and return it, is rubbish if you want use as only mouse is ok, but if you think about buttons -forget, is not possible set buttons for your own use (just scroll up and down; left and right only working in this mouse preferences menu; side buttons back and forward on web browser), i had (and have now second ) mikomi brand BW-5 which you can program 4 buttons for me is the best one availble only on amazon ~15GBP

You can program the middle button but not the side buttons. The amazon offer sounds interesting but I can't find it. Could you provide a link please.

Uh?

Put simply different DPI changes the speed of the cursor at 1600dpi it will move 1600 pixels (dots) on the screen per inch of movement while at 800dpi it will move only 800 pixels per inch.

If you're after accuracy then it's better to get a mouse with one of it's DPI that fits the speed you want rather than changing the speed settings in your operating system because it's the mouse that does the processing and tells how many pixels should be used, so all the operating system can do is multiply this. e.g. if you triple the speed the minimum amount of pixels you can move is three as each single pixel movement the mouse says should happen has to be changed to a movement of three pixels by the operating system.

here is a link http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/9...sksteryau0.jpg
to image of function hidden under office button (sorry it is in polish but icons in my opinion explain everything)

spag - thanks for the link. The a4tech/amazon mouse is quite different from the argos/mikomi mouse. From what I understand it's better suited for right hand use and since I am left handed it's not for me (it's also double the price of the argos). Looks good though for someone who uses the extra buttons a lot, I only use mine as a simple mouse. I have tried quite a few mice recently inclusive Microsoft and the Mikomi is the smoothest.

Oh sorry, changable DPI itself is useful in things like games where you might want to turn your tank turret quickly and then slow down when aiming an artillery piece so not a completely gimmick but a lot of people aren't going to use it.
