What happened to the price of tinned tomatoes?! I love Napolina, but have got a cupboard full of about a hundred tins as I stocked up in Tesco when they were BOGOF. Can't believe they're selling for pretty much £1 a tin now.
Probably the same thing that has happened to the price of a lot of things, on the back of excuses such as the
huge fuel price rises.
In in reality there hasn't been anything LIKE the percentage of rise in fuel that I keep hearing quoted, of 30%, 35% that sort of thing! A year ago, I was paying about 11% less for petrol than now, diesel is maybe a little more than that, and of course oil prices have fallen considerably compared to their highest levels
I suspect it is just the usual profiteering that happens when prices need to change. After all, food has been stable or even reducing in price over the boom times of the last few years, and once things start to move upwards, it seems to be looked at as a good opportunity to put many things up, and grab back some of the shortfall!
In the past. I remember many years ago, potatoes went into serious short supply, and MASSIVE rises happened, (something like 3 or 4p per lb to 25 or 35p) and surprise, surprise they never ever came down afterwards and full supply returned. Of course this sort of thing has a knock on effect, such as in that case, a rise in the price of other staples like rice!
It has happened since on many other things too
