Dual triple or with ten sets of knobs on, TENS is a waste of space, save your money, or if you really get talked round into thinking it does any good, borrow one, and you will see for yourself what a waste of time it is

I wont be rising to the criticism which will follow, just warning poor souls not to waste their money as I did, when Tens machines were nearer 100 quid than 20! If it is that effective, they will be rushing out to buy one after borrowing one. The drawers of Britain must be stuffed with thousands of these useless toys, as even the greatest fans soon get fed up with the hassle and bother as well as cost of electrodes, tape and gel, when one paracetamol tablet is probably more effective and a lot quicker - and those of us with chronic pain know how feeble that is!

A bit harsh. TENS is clearly no miracle cure, but for those who cannot tolerate any medicinal painkillers, if , for instance, they are on a cocktail of drugs, it is about the only option left for pain relief.

The advice about borrowing one (on a doctor's prescription) is sound, however, as even the packaging should state, TENS will not work for many people.

Well, TENS gives me sufficient pain relief that I can shuffle around when my back disk pops out - not total pain relief, but enough to exercise, which for me eventually sorts out a recurring problem.
2 pairs of pads will come in useful!
Not sure what the heated refers too, nothing in the product description seems to confirm this.

Personally I would not buy this model as it is very poor quality. This was always intended to be sold at £19.99 and not the higher price. I know this as I work for Lloydspharmacy and we had plenty back from customers who's machines/parts had failed.

TENS machines are excellent in general and although not a miricale they do help. You just have to keep practacing with the positioning of the pads for the best result.

I love my TENS - used it for backpain and heartburn. It seems to expel gas very well for the latter. Used with microwable heated teddy bear whenever I have backpain and it works! So much so that I bought baby elle TENS machine - supposedly helps to relieve stage 1 birth pain. Was wondering if I the heated TENS works the same...costs half the price...

Bought some pads from ebay but nowhere are they as good as those sold here.

I have a few TENS machines - from the most expensive ones (I'm so ashamed to even tell you how much I paid for it 10 years ago) to the cheapest one sold (the non-Lloyds Pharmacy brand sold by Lloyds Pharmacy sometime ago for £10)..

I bought one of these on Thursday. To set the scene, I have Osteoarthritis in my left hip and both knees. I'm allergic to codeine, which is contained in most over the counter and prescribed strong painkillers, have arthrotec 50 from my docter and also take paracetamol. I can't take ibuprofen because of my asthma and the tramadol my doctor also prescribed interacts with other medication I'm on, so I can't take that now either.

Following a fall in September, when I injured my right knee, my hip has been very painful because I've had to take more weight on that side, so I've been walking with crutches and in severe pain when I get up in the morning and most of the day. The only time it's been less is in bed with my leg on a support pillow and I have been attending appointments with the physiotherapist at my local hospital to try to reduce the pain and improve my walking.

I have used the machine for the last 2 nights as instructed in the manual and the reduction in the pain I now feel has been dramatic. I can get out of bed and stand up with virtually no pain and am now walking with just one crutch not two and don't need to take the paracetamol.

From what I've read about TENS this morning it seems that it doesn't work for everyone, but those it does work for often report a dramatic effect. From my experience, it's definately something worth trying if you are in chronic pain like me and I'm so glad I found it. Do read the instructions and warnings first as there are certain conditions where you shouldn't use it and consult your doctor if necessary. Most health authorities have TENS nurses but the waiting list for the pain clinic here is a long one so don't expect to be seen soon if you go that route.

I'll report back in a few weeks on how it's going.
