My twins get there glasses next week, They are only 11 months old. Has anyone else's babies had to have glasses at a young age?

POSTED BY: mrfun1981 1 month, 2 weeks ago

One of our twins was born with a very bad squint in her eye & the other eye doesn't look outwards at all. So she has been under the hospital since a very earlier age. At about 6months was told that she would need glasses sometime soon'ish becasue she is long sighted .

so we got the GP to refer the other twin an after 2 visits, one today (which both of them got seen) we were told that the other twin is long sighted & will need to have glasses as well so they decided that they are both old enough to have them. The glasses have been ordered & we are to get them early next week for both of them

I no there are clips that go over the ears that are meant to stop the babies pulling the glasses off, but over time they will learn ways off getting them off.

Im just wondering what other peoples experiences are of trying to get there babies to keep glasses on, is it as hard as im thinking it will be or is it easy & normal babies take to them

Plus having twins im used to people stopping me in the street to look at twins, but that has slowly died down. But im going to prob get it all over again once they start wearing there glasses. I can just picture it, an people saying how do you know they need glasses at a young age etc

well firstly no mine didnt so young although my son has had since age 4. Neice had very young before age 2-and yes she kept them on! it takes a little time to get used to them anyway and they wont expect them to wear them all the time im sure-just as much as possible without upsetting them! Im sure you know lots of distraction tactics!
The glasses can have a wire on the backs-and they are ever so tiny! I get sons from Specsavers who are brilliant for kids as they always do a second pair within a few weeks on a repair voucher, and you need the spare. They make them now with Mr Men and alkinds of trims to appeal (I know yur babies are a little young but they will learn im sure.
They can tell they need glasses from the shape of the eye when they look into it.
And i wouldnt be thinking about what people say as im sure they will look sooo cute!!!

My youngest daughter has had to wear glasses from about a year old, At first she was fine and wore them quite frequently, She started taking them off quite a lot, Now I try to get her to wear them as much as possible but not having much luck, However don't force them, Let them wear them as much and as frequently as they can/willing, They'll have to get use to them eventually and the sooner they do the better it will be for their eyes.

The most important thing to remember is don't worry if you can't get them to wear them as their young their vision is still developing and you've still got a few years to try to get them to wear glasses yet. Just encourage them as much as you can.

My daughter gets a few stares when she's wearing her glasses, It's their problem if they can't understand why a x year old wears glasses.

What they say should be ignored, it's not important. People stop and stare at my kid, I don't blame 'em though "He ugly".

My older daughter who has just turned 3, has been wearing glasses for the last 3 months. She took to wearing them without any problems. Made a little bit of a game out of it saying she is wearing glasses like me so our eyes can get better. An she was so happy wearing glasses just like dad. Just not going to be able to do that with the twins, they keep trying to pull my glasses when i give them a cuddle

Iv got the twins glasses ordered from Specsavers to the stuff in there were very nice & help full

Yeah that's what i was told about our 3 year old, that she might only need to wear them for a couple of years & there are chances her eyes will be ok

Guess part of that is right but not a nice thing to say about your kid, is it

there's a young baby up at my son's school he cant be more then 9 or 10 months and he wears the tiniest glasses i have ever seen, he is soooo cute and everyone at school makes a huge fuss of him cos he's so young but he loves it. He had a really bad turn in his left eye but when he's wearing his glasses you can just see it. To hell with what other people say you know whats best for your kids and if it means glasses at a young age then fine, at least the hope is it will correct the problem for them before it gets worse.
good luck with it hun.

Cant offer any advice really, but just wanted to say that I think kids with glasses are really cute

Could be good that they are getting them at the same time though, make a big fuss of them when they are wearing the glasses, ignore it if they take them off, but make a fuss of the one who is still wearing them - they are more likely to put them back on so that they get the attention too.

I do think it's best that they get them at the same time otherwise they will end up fighting over the one pair, they already fight over each others dummies & toy's when the other one is playing with it

That could be one of the things we try to get them to wear glasses, im sure there are a few methods & it will be trail & error to find the one that works best for the twins to keep the glasses on

UPDATE:

My twins get there glasses earlier 2day, Holly Has taken her her glasses she has not even tried taking them off yet which im very surprised with!!! But at least that is one easy child but Rosie is totally different within a few seconds of the glasses being out on she had completely taken them off. we have tried a few times to put them back on but she just keeps crying & screaming. i guess it going to be hard work getting her to keep them on.

maybe just leave rosies galsses off for a while, leave them within eyesight, and try to praise Holly for keeping them on, maybe rosie will put them on when shes ready, i know they are very young but forcing the issue wont help
