Stung Badly by Vodafone Contract - Need Help please

POSTED BY: chada 1 year, 1 month ago

Hi,

Last year I took out two vodafone £40/month 12 month contracts from Mobiles2Yourdoor (on 12 month free deals.) I got all the cashback from Mobiles2Yourdoor but another snag has come up.

My contracts expired on the 9th of October this year and so I thought I would give Vodafone a call to see what happens to my numbers - whether they can convert them to pay as you go or something of the sort because I was not continuing with these contracts.

However, Vodafone told me that the contracts do not expire after 12 month automatically and that I have to give them 30 days written notice so as to cancel the contract. I didnt know this and thought once the 12 months are over, the contracts cancels itself.

So all in all, he told me that I will infact end up paying for 1 more month and a few days (pro rata) and that there was no way for me to avoid this since I hadnt given them a notice.

So now I have two options (give them a notice and and pay about 90 quid) or cancel my direct debit (and ruin my credit history).

Does anyone have any other ideas as to how I could get out of this? Any help appreciated.

PS - Does Anyone have an email address or Postal address where I can write to Vodafone If i need to. Or will the online contact us form suffice?

Thanks

Chada

Can you revert to a lower price plan, then cancel? Not a good idea to get your credit history smeared.

Last time I changed my number from Orange I was told by CS that if you get your PAC code (it contains your mobile number so when you start a new contract elsewhere with another network), when you use it (ie start new contract) your old network - in your case vodafone - will no longer have a phone number or line to charge so the moment you activate your PAC your old contract will stop and you will not be charged anything or have to give your 30 days notice.

tey will charge you til the number is picked up by another network. You have to pay up as its your mistake-you should have read your contract-its standard practice 30days notice.

you say your contract expired on 09/10/2008, i think you will find vodaphone will have taken the two lots ot £40 on 10/10/2008 by your usual payment (direct debit?). this is usually paid in advance so by moving your number without the 30 days notice you have paid this £80 for nothing. my view is to give the notice and you will only be billed for the odd few days owing. i.e. give notice today (12/10/2008) and it should be 3 days, but you will be able to use your call allowance until 12/11/2008.

I would ask for a lower tarrif on Vodafone as even with requesting a PAC number they will still ask for the remaining amount to be paid. The sooner you port your number, the quicker you will also have to settle your account as once your contract has effectively been terminated, Vodafone will bill you for the cost of the amount outstanding. Request a lower tarrif asap and you'll have to pay them less in total!
