I've bought a 9800 gt, same spec for 76 quid + vat from MD recently.
As cards go you cant fault it for the money.
It's easilly 4 times faster than my old 6800GT (which was no slouch in it's time!).

Slim

It is basically the same card except it is using a smaller chip ( please correct me if I'm wrong) meaning it can run at a higher clock due to less heat being given out so in essence you are getting about 10% more performance than an 8800 GT. If you have an 8800 GT then I suggest you don't upgrade but if you don't have a good graphics card go for this one sure thing

Cold, same as an 8800gt, they only added 1 feature I think to the 9800gt... 8800gt can be had cheaper

Nope, this is literally the same card with a BIOS flash.

Not really, each stream processor is effectively a fully functional core in itself, and this card has 112 SPs.

Erm.
I've got about £50 to upgrade my X1650.
Should I go the bookies and take a punt on an evens bet - or should I go for the cheaper 256mb 8800Gt that was on here the other week?

And are these things loud...I hate loud fans.

Yes.. more than sense anyway as you would be better off getting a GTX 280 or HD 4870 and using SLI/Crossfire with these.

This 9800 looks like a good price, I'm looking for a card at the moment. It's between this and the 4850. I think the 4850 lies in the best preformance/price bracket but I'm not sure about ATi's drivers.
