Im just amazed at how quickly HDD are becoming, I think that solid state drives are the future but this is a lot of storage for not a lot of money, I have two 750Gb drives in my PC and an external 300 GB one and they are almost all full

Not surprised, count yourself lucky you can even get Windows on a 750MB drive

480 Mbps is the transfer rate of a usb pen drive isn't it?

Aren't there any of these with sata connections?

I was just thinking if you use torrents and download to the flash pen, it would go faster with less stress on the hard drive. Then just transfer the completed file to main storage when you don't want to view or stream it. I just know my laptop drive sounds a bit heavy with constant use and a flash pen 'buffer' may help.

480mbps is the quoted theoretical maximum.

eSATA ones cost quite a bit more... this is cheap and cheerful for 1TB really

Silliest idea ever:

You're always limited by the slowest link in the chain:
20Mb (at most) broadband, 480Mb USB
Broadband is always the bottleneck.

Flash drives have limited write cycles - not the best idea to use them on torrents.
Flash drives are slower than hard drives in data transfer, not quicker
You won't "wear a hard drive out" by using it for torrents

Good deal.

BTW. Tranfer speeds rarely exceed 260-270 Mbps for USB2.
