The PowerEdge™ T105 has 4 memory sockets for up to 8GB of memory and uses energy efficient DDR-2 800MHz or 667MHz unbuffered DIMMs with Error-Correcting Code (ECC).

ECC? it's gonna expensive. By the way, does this quad core come with the TLB bug?

It's a server, not a desktop.

Servers are big, heavy & noisy, and always have **** onboard gfx.
They often don't have sound either.

What do people use these for if they are so basic?

Lol, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Server_(computing)

You wouldn't want to play games on them, but servers usually have higher cpu/ram/hdd specs than any pc.

Voted hot ( for use as a server!) .. I notice they've changed the ebay deal to match now though £160 inc delivery on ebay

Great post, rep added but deal marked cold (see later).

A few answers to posters above.

Dellboy: The server doesn't have a dedicated RAID controller, although RAID 1/0/5 should be configurable in the BIOS. It's not intended to be a high performance server, bandwidth and drive performance is not an issue.

Tom Pickering: Businesses use servers to host their group email, calendars, documents and files. Bigger companies use servers to host websites (like HUKD) or game servers. Home users might want to look elsewhere for a media server though as this machine isn't equipped with any graphics card. It doesn't have an operating system license either - that's extra.

ro888: EEC RAM is more expensive, but this machine already comes with 1GB. Which is more than enough as a fileserver or >basic< email server.

Now for the kicker?

The CPU architecture (Barcelona) has a major bug which causes crashes and system lockups. It can be worked around with a BIOS update (this machine probably already has the BIOS update) that causes a loss of ~15% performance. All the defective chips make their way into the cheaper servers (like this one) and are flogged off to home users and small businesses who might not notice (?).

That's why the deal's cheap, folks.
