I would have agreed at one point. Not anymore. All the new games seem to be sold, as standard, at £40 everywhere. ShopTo will knock it down to £37.99 and sometimes GAME will do the same. Pretty much all the other typical retailers will stick to the £39.99 pricetag at launch.

GAME offer their double bonus points scheme for pre-orders. +
GAME offer 9% Quidco (used to be 11%). More than most other stores. +
GAME constantly have £3-5 off vouchers. +
GAME are good at delivering on/before the release date. +

= Hard to resist.

Personally I like them because I can buy used games from them and trade them in at my local Blockbuster. The result is at least a 50% discount from normal store price here. And it's customs safe, because, unlike a lot of the other stores, they actually ship from the UK mainland and not one of the channel islands!
(I am not located in the UK, in case you are wondering how I get such a neat trade-in value for the games).
