You need this if you want HDMI and optical out on your Xbox 360. This is the cheapest I have ever seen it.

I'm assuming this is for the older 360's that don't have HDMI outputs.

Nope. Its just a normal hdmi cable. The only difference is that it comes with the audio dongle for connecting to external sound systems.

Not really ... MS in their infinate wisdom (or money grabbing mits) placed the HDMI socket too near to the AV out so you cant have HDMI AND optical output without hacking back the oversized plugs .... Or buy this overpriced ripoff intergrated plug.

Yes it does - however if you want optical out for your sound system you cannot use the standard composite HD cable and the HDMI lead as the standard lead is too physically big - however you can strip the casing off the standard composite lead and it will fit fine, of course if you got an arcade or a core you dont have a composite HD lead so you have no optical adaptor.

To be frank, I voted cold as £22 seems expensive for an optical adaptor and a hdmi cable (which MS seem to have planned), you can get it cheaper if you buy a S/H composite or VGA cable strip the casing and a cheap HDMI, but on reflection, £22 doesnt seem too bad for what is probably a high quality product.

If you want HDMI and optical out and you don't feel confident about hacking the plug of a cable apart to expose the wires (to make the port accessible), then this is the only option. £22 is the cheapest I have ever seen it, so why vote it cold? All official MS products are overpriced!

I really would reccomend the DIY aproach. All you need is a screwdriver, dinner knife, scissors or something, and remove the outter plastic. It's a 2 second job and will save you £20, that you can buy a game or something with.

There is a wire mod too, but this isn't needed to get it working. The wire mod just stops the XBOX restarting if you was to change channels then come back to it. The wire mod is also easy too.

Obviously not needed if you have an Elite, as this is supplied with the Elite.

Of course it's a rip-off. Look at the price of the MS wireless adapter, or the hard drives.
But this is the cheapest I've seen this too.

I have a premium 360 (believe it is the older 203W model) and the cable stripping method DID NOT WORK FOR ME. The xbox would constantly reboot whenever you plugged it in.

Buying a kit like this was the only solution for getting decent 5.1 and I paid £35 iirc. Good price, voted hot.

That would be because the cable is not hot swappable. It should be in when you turn it on. Then it should work.

Correct. I should have clarified - when my TV changed sources the 360 rebooted. Even if it wasn't changing to/from the 360 source. Made it basically unusable. TV is a year-old Philips.

Offer edited - now only £15.03. Yes I know it is more expensive than a bog standard hdmi, and MS are ripping us all off, but this is the cheapest I have ever seen it by far.
