From the above
> Unlimited Mobile Internet: Our daily charge for access to the mobile internet is subject to a fair use allowance of 25MB per day

probably the most egregious misuse of the term "unlimited" I've ever seen. Voted so cold it's freezing.

In mobile terms i'd reckon that 25Mb is quite a lot. The girlfriend has Virgin Mobile and will be chuffed with this.

Hot.

It's probably the best rate if you use the internet sporadically.

This is for PAYG customers as well right? Do PAYG get access to the 3G network? or is this GPRS and EDGE?

I'm not with Virgin I'm on o2 Simplicity Unlimited web bolt-on (Currently used about 5GB in 3 months on my iPhone 3G!! lol) but want to know as I know some people on Virigin..

I could live with the 25Mb allowance but "It doesnt include ... using your phone as a modem" is a deal killer.

Why can't companies be honest with things like this. It is clearly not unlimited, since there is a limit of 25Mb per day, and they charge you if you go over this. That puts me off the whole deal, since you do not know how else Virgin are deceiving you.

Definitely cold, with 3 you can get a £5 addon with 1GB limit, and remove it whenever you want with no contract aswell.

Simply, if they were no-one would buy their products.

2 questions.

Has anybody checked how much they charge above the limit. last time I looked it was somthing like 6p per KB. (Yes KB)!

With a fairly standard 2 MB connection at home, how long would it take to use up a 25MB allowance?
Must be about a day surely ? lol

I think what most people aren't appreciating is that this is the cheapest daily rate:

Virgin 30p (25MB)
Three 50p (can't find a fair use policy)
T-Mobile £1 (40MB)
Vodafone £1 (15MB)
O2 £1 (can't find a fair use policy)
Orange £1.50 (25MB)

Yes, if you want a monthly rate with more data then 3 is probably the best at £5 a month but if you don't use your phone for data every day then it might not be...

And yes, maybe you can find more than 25MB as a daily allowance but if all you do is read your email, check the news/footie scores and maybe a couple of youtube videos (which probably is most people's usage) then this is plenty.

Last time I read 3 site, the usage was 120MB per day.

I vote it hot. Will allow me to use my phone as a GPS system, and browse for stuff on train etc. The £2/MB really put me off before. I have got a 3 mobile too which is better as its 50p for 120MB but the sim doesn't work in all the mobiles I have, so I can't really use it in my current handset. This deal is good.

If you are using internet just on your mobile, then 25MB is hell of a lot. I used T-mobile internet free for a week on my handset and after 7 days of use, which I would class as HIGH usage for me (I used Opera Mini to download programs to my phones such as opera mini, yell etc) I only managed to use about 15MB over 7 days. So 25MB is more than enough for 1 day on your phone and probably enough for linking to your PC for stuff like email, HUKD etc....

The three 50p for 120MB is a better deal, but again technically you're not supposed to connect it to your PC

This deal is great for those who just want to check emails and browse the internet on their mobile. I have a Tytn II and my data use each day is never more than 10-15Mb and I use it lots through the day checking emails, reading the news sites and browsing the web as required.

Of course if someone emails you large files or you want to download software to install then it will use the allowance up and get pricey but if you want to just make use of internet functionality on your device then this is actually a good deal. If you are running a pocket pc then install SPB GPRS Monitor. Other devices might have their own way to track the data transferred. Remember that the 25Mb will be for data sent and received.

Also you will be able to use this as a modem. The T&Cs state you can't but I can make my TyTn a hotspot and other devices can connect to it and T-Mobile has never complained.

If anyone has an old Smartphone device then a Virgin PAYG SIM with this deal seems HOT to me.
