Overview

Immerse yourself in the game with the outstanding surround sound of Logitechs X-540 speaker system. Dual driver satellites use FDD2 technology to eliminate uneven response created by conventional dual driver designs and matrix mode creates 5.1 surround sound from 2-channel sources. An innovative centre channel speaker clips onto the top of most flat-panel LCD monitors. The ported subwoofer features dynamic, real-time equalization that maximizes bass while minimizing distortion. The X-540 also features a convenient control pod with volume and subwoofer level controls, as well as a headphone jack for private listening. Satellite stands rotate for easy wall mounting.

Please note: on the product page it has 'LOGITECH X-540 2.1 SPEAKER SYSTEM' as the title, this is a TYPO which as soon as you read the detailed description is very apparant. The product is definitely 5.1 - as shown by the pictures.

Not really. These are designed to be plugged into a computer's sound card, and have several inputs for each set of speakers. Also, they don't decode a Dolby signal like you'd get off a DVD, so unless your TV has a decoder built in (unikely) it won't work with your tv or your dvds (unless you have a Media Center PC attached to your TV).

You shold look at the Logitech z5500 system that appeared on here for £175 a few days ago. it is very versatile, looks good in most living rooms, a good setup for a beginner because it doesn't need fiddly sound-balance and it's not too expensive. HOWEVER the subwoofer is HUGE. Ours hides under a coffee table out of the way.

Alternatively there are home theatre setups by Sony et al appearing on HUKD ever y so often. They come with a DVD player and are pretty foolproof.

I bought this set during the Dell sale for under £40 delivered. I bought them for use with my Xbox360, they're a set for the price and do the job for me.
Would recommend them for pc or gaming, have watched a number of High Def movies through them and thought the sound was good.

I bought these, and unless my TV is doing something very clever, it appears that the speakers are decoding a Dolby ProLogic signal into surround sound (when in Matrix mode).
They're very good - films, games and music all sound excellent.

My old speakers were on the way out, so these will come in handy! Heat added.

Voted HOT.

I got these way back in 2007 and they are an excellent set of speakers for the price.
Paired them with a Creative Soundblaster X-fi Xtreme Gamer soundcard and could never go back to 2.1 and onboard sound.
