All children can sign up for minor ailments therefore you can get this free on perscription. Ask at your local chemist if you dont pay for perscriptions.

You beat me to it...

A lot of chemists don't do it (yet). But I know that Boots do it.

You need to go to the medicines (not prescription) counter and ask for some calpol as part of the minorailments scheme and fill out a form. You need to know who your doctor is, and they ask where you were told about this ie Did the Doctor/Emergency Doctor/NHS direct etc tell you to go and get some calpol on the minor ailments scheme. That's it. Dead easy and free. There are other things available also. You can get calprofen also.

reading about this "minor ailments" scheme on the internet seems to suggest you can only get this free if you are exempt from paying for prescriptions anyway. for those of us who do pay for prescriptions the standard prescription fee would apply - making it much more expensive than £1......

unless I've misinterpreted?

Yup. 'Cos your son or daughter is under 16 years of age it's always free.

There can be loads of reasons for this. i.e. there aren't any chemists near to you, but there is an Asda...........you're buying it for someone else and so you don't qualify for any freebies........you don't like asking for benefits........you want to stock up & buy a few bottles......etc....
To answer your questions horsepills

Most chemists do it or are signing up to it

Medicine for under 16's is free always

You don't need to be on benefits, it's not a benefit either, and getting free medicine for your baby/toddler is a right of all parents/guardians and you should not feel "ashamed" (or whatever) to get your kid better/well for free

You can stock up for free

my doctor has always told me to get some calpol in(buy it) when my son is ill.my doctor has never gave me a prescription for it.some doctors do some don't.it's like trying to get blood out of a stone at my surgery.I saw this calpol Monday morning and went back Monday night to get some and the shelf was empty.I will keep trying

but surely if an Asda is within walking distance, it is more cost effective to pay a £1 for a bottle there than travel further to a chemist in the hope of getting it free?

just making the point that there may be circumstances where this is a hot deal for £1, even if some places do it for free

Asda give it away for FREE. You don't have to pay. That's probably why they've reduced it to £1 so folk think they are getting a good deal.

thanks andywedge for the info, i never heared off the minor ailment and my GP never mentioned it,
it still hot deal and they are doing the sachets for the same price which is good for journeys..
they also have many other deals on medicines like antihestamines (heyfever tabs) for 50p, and ive seen blood glucose monitor for £4, i know diabetic patients can get one free but this one is better quality and is the minimum device in taking blood..
it worth a visit...
