Just to let you PC enthusiasts know, cheapest I've found this graphics card anywhere else is play.com for £99.99 inc delivery. This saves you +£7 on that and is a very good graphics card for the price.

*Edit* Just bought one myself so can doubley confirm that is indeed the price! :D

*2nd Edit* Just checked links again and can't get it to directlink to the deal, keeps just going to the PC World main page. If go to the search bar and type in "9800 GT" it will have this card in the first page of the results. It's listed at £89.99 - but with the VAT inc it actually chops about two quid off and brings it down to £88.04 inc VAT. :)

is this card any good and what temps should it idle at when it desktop stuff and loaded with crysis or other newish game??

i ask because i have at moment an ASUS 9800 GX2, which i have had for around 5 months and it now upon booting computer idles with desktop stuff around 96-107C!!!!!! and the fans is setup at 70% with riva tuner, if i go upto 86% it will drop to 87C idleing desktop stuff but fans bit more louder than 70% sound levels, oh and i have the side of my computer case off and i also have 2 fan things in plastic cases with metal that takes up a pci slot or something each 1 above an below think 1 blows out and 1 takes air in of my 9800 gx2.

i feel really ripped off about my 9800 gx2 cost me around 350-400 or something stupid high, it just gets to hot for its own good. it use to idle at 63C but over the months it went up and up and up till were i am at now.

had it reach 116C while playing red alert 3 at 1920*1200 and i think it crashed at that point.

so i will be down grading my gfx card to either this type of card or an 8800gts?

In your position i would simply try an aftermarket cooler for around £20-30, that should bring the temps down considerably. May even be worth taking off the current cooler and reapplying new thermal paste.

My tips would be to:

a) move your PC away from the radiator
b) clean any dust away from the heatsink
c) if it's still hot, return it under warranty

Yeah, but there is the hexus free postage deal that is easy to get... look it up. I've never paid for postage with Scan.

It's probably just clogged up with dust, and having the side off your case is likely raising the temperature further (a well designed case will be cooler with the side on).

Next cheapest is novatech at £92

Agreed. You probably haven't got a wind tunnel past the GPU. Plus, dust is a real temp-raiser. London is terrible for dust - where does it all come from?! After one week, my (intake) fan guard is coated in dust! Imagine if that had got into my case and been blown into the GPU or CPU... I'm going to clean them out monthly, at least!
