Must be marketing spin or something. It's been like this for the absolute minimum of a year and I'm quite sure a few years as that's as far back as I go with macs. There's someone who works for Apple somewhere on here so I"m sure s/he will clear it up.

Yeah the £100 promo is over unfortunately. It never used to say in their marketing spiel but it was on the invoice and in the T&C's for the HE store. Maybe it wasn't across the board before and was only with selected universities? As far as I knew from reading on mac forums everyone was getting it though.

I've been eyeing the MacBook for quite sometimes now and yes, the three year warranty has been by there for quite sometimes. You'll only see this if you're accessing the Apple HE website.

But does that mean you don't need an email address at the .ac.uk you're ordering from?

Hey,

Just to clear things up.... I work for Apple in their Higher Education department.

Yes, it is true.... all macs purchased from the Higher Education store autlomatically receives an upgrade to 3 years parts and labor warranty. However, this is not equivalent to the AppleCare that normal customers buy. There are small differences (such as shorter telephone support), but basically if your mac breaks down within those 3 years, and it was a manufacturing fault, then you can bring it into an apple shop or service centre and get it repaired/replaced for free.

There is a special EMEA "uplift" which costs around £58 which is only available through the HE store. This basically gives you the exact same coverage as the AppleCare.

So now there is even more reason for students to buy macs:
15-20% discount, free upgrade to 3 years warranty (I reckon that's worth about £150-200), and a special educational iMac model that only costs a tad bit over £500.

See my other threads for some more info about the HE store from Apple.

Hey boonkoh! When did this 3 year warranty start and why is Apple promoting it as if it's a new thing? I know it's definitely been around for a while. Did something change with it?

Oh and tenex/rajpop - the discount at the HE store is for students at that institution. Trying to get around this is fraud and somewhat like people who try to scam Young Person railcards etc.
